What type of air cleaner is this, and how do I get it off?

I don't see any screws holding it down. I tried yanking on it to no avail. It has some play in it and swivels left and right a few inches. The allen screws on the front don't seem to want to come out (I have a feeling there is a nut on the other end spinning).

Should I just get on top of it, straddle it and do a heavho on it?

If anyone knows the brand, I can google. Thank You!

I think you take the screen off the front, and can then access the filter and whatever setup they have holding it down.

it's a single carb Hilborn air cleaner.. I ran a custom dual one on my Chevelle..

take the 4 screws off the front screen, than you can get to the nut on the filter...

Yep thats the car my uncle is in the middle of restoring. Same color and everything. 396 and a muncie 4 speed

There is a plate that sits on the carb and then the air cleaner sits on the plate with a top cover that holds the plate/air cleaner to the carb VIA the carb stud. The plate has 4 mounting holes that the aluminum casting bolts to (these are facing down dowards the manifold). You must remove the mounting bolts and remove the aluminum casting before you can remove the air cleaner and plate assembly, IIRC you cannot access the air cleaner stud by removing the front screen (at least not easily).

Yeah I know... It came this way, maybe I'll ebay it and get a more appropriate easier to remove air cleaner.

Make sure you route the inlet so that it pulls cool air not underhood hot air. The cooler the intake charge is the better performance you'll get.

Thanks 4x4, what you said was right on. I got the air cleaner out no problem. Thanks.

No problem. I had one of those type air cleaner assemblies on a blown 468 in my Chevy II
