What type of engine?

there is a gen iv now...engine in 05 gto and corvettes...not really much changed, except for the knock sensor location and the lifter valley is redesigned for the 4-6-8 crap.

i know from the choices its 1st gen but it is the 2nd or third design of that block, wouldn't it have passenger side dipstick and one piece rear main seal? maybe even centerbolt heads? Duntov Rocked :saweet: :saweet:

Actually that engine is nothing more than the 5.3 SBC and it is a 4-8 engine not a 4-6-8 engine and is only offerd in the Trailblazer based SUV's and the new front drive V8 powerd midsize cars like the Monte Carlo, Impala and Grand Prix.

Yes, in '86 IIRC Gm went to a one piece main seal and in '87 they went with the center bolt valve covers. Also, I think they started getting provisions to accept roller cams.

Gen I. LT1 is gen II, and Gen III is the new LS1, and the 4.8, 5.3 and 6.0 truck motors.

And GenIII all aluminum 5.7 346" found in camaros, corvettes, and t/a's. :wink1:

so the 6.0 in the corvettes and gtos is actually a 5.3? i dont get it. the 05 6.0s are a gen iv but they dont have the 4-8 (excuse me), but they do have the castings for it.

yup. The "LS1" RPO really only applies to the 1997 engine when it first came out. so 98 up 5.7's aren't ls1 rpo's.
Since then, gen III motors have been generally referred to as LS1 motors.

the '04 corvettes and gtos were 6.0L not 5.3 Gen III motors just have those four displacemants... for now gm is supposedly coming out with a 427 smallblock gen III in '07
