Sorry guys,
I'm new at this, but I'm learning every day! What type of lift does my 72 blazer have?

Do you see any apparent issues?

Thanks!

Well, if I were an ant, My guess is 6 inch springs with 2 inch or 3 inch body lift.

Looks like a cool older blazer

what height or brand?

need a pic of the side, looks like at least 6" just looking at the arch of the springs. Look on the top of the leafs for some kind of manufacturer stamp or sticker.

PS> what's up with your driver's side front leaf hanger? Looks funny

No, thats just a strap that is on most I've seen. I don't know what its for, but mine has it.
yup, both of the '72's I've owned had that strap on the drivers side hanger as well.
not sure what its for, but its factory.

It was part of GM's fix if your shackle broke on the drivers side. That cage on the drivers side front and the shark fin at the back of the shackle were to keep you from driving into head on traffic if it broke.

Can't remember when they stopped with the fin on the back though. I didn't think that it was on all 1st gens. :dunno:

Brian/Greg ???

Thanks guys. I did look on the springs for markings, but they are caked with crap. I will try to pressure wash them this weekend. Here are some more pics.

Previous owner said that it has an 8 inch suspension lift. Is this a "shackle" lift? Leaf springs? What is the technical term.

Hope the pics help.

take a level side shot of the truck from 20, 30' away.. that tells us more than anything.. you've got what look's like a 3" body lift, so i'd guess it's a 6" suspension lift...

Yes, that driver side strap is factory. No reason to remove it unless it interferes with a military-wrap aftermarket spring. The rear "shark fin" can sometimes limit spring flex and cause the truck to dart to the right under hard braking.

Those double shocks up front look aftermarket. I've never seen that from the factory on a 1st gen. It must ride really stiff with two shocks per corner?

Gotta be careful too... You have almost NO tire clearance at the fender corners. If you start softening up the ride, even at the same amount of overall lift... You'll be munching those fenders and tearing up the tires.

Hey guys,
I did some measuring as you suggested. This is what I came up with:

Frame to ground: 28"
Body lift pucks: 3"
Front center of axle to bottom of frame: 16"
Rear center of axle to bottom of frame: 16"
Rear blocks beneath springs: 4"

Does anyone out there know the factory dimensions for frame to axle?

maybe a 4 inch lift with a add-a-leaf and a 3 inch body to get the total of 8" like the po said? :dunno:
