Picked up a few steering u-joints last night to build out a new steering shaft for the '86 K5, as I need to make a 2 piece shaft to clear the headers.

For the column end, I got this Sweet Mfg joint that's supposed to be sized specifically for OEM GM columns - https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Swee...und-to-1-In-DD-GM-Column-Universal,31393.html

It won't go on the column at all. The joint does measure 0.985" ID as it's specified, and Sweet says GM columns are undersized while IDIDIT and Flaming River columns measure a true 1.00. I'm measuring my column end as 0.995", and as far as I know, it's the factory original column. I'm finding the same thing on the '85 K20 column I have too.

Logically, it seems I need the joint meant for true 1" aftermarket columns, but wanted to double check before making the trip to Speedway and back, as it's a 100 mile round trip for me.

Or do I need to go junk yard hunting for the XJ shaft and hope I find one that isn't already thrashed? (I live in the middle of nowhere, so it's a long drive to the yards too...I'd just as soon buy brand new joints to start with)

lowest cost is quadratex.
You can buy a new for any of the above . While it is apart, I would add the kit for the lower end of column from Quadratec or others have it.
