ok, so i finally got the deal worked out on the srw 86 k30, i went today and stripped it, i couldn't get the frame and he wanted to keep the flatbed, told me i could take anything else i wanted, so i got the already pulled 454,minus asseseries(needs rebuild??his words),radiator, motor mounts, (worn out, but i have lifetime replacement at autozone, so i figured i'd grab them and swap them for new), sm465/np205, bellhousing, linkages, crossmember, srw d60f, srw 14bff(some sort of load senseing brake thingy), the springs(had to beg to get the 56'' rears...question coming), shocks(look decent), driveshafts, the pedals, heater control, headlight switch, tilt steering column, hydroboost brakes, steering sector, heater blower motor, engine wiring harness, speedo cable, glovebox, ashtray, wipers, cowl....i'm sure i'm missing some little things i got also....wiper motor..., i basically stripped it bare today, all for $850, he plans on using a solid front axle, better cab(air) and front cap and 350/350, and making a wrecker w/ the flatbed by adding a boom and a winch and wanted the heavy frame and didn't want the "gas guzzling 454", my score:pimp:, :rotfl:didn't know he meant i could have the motor:bow:.(finally i can use the 366 crank and build my 427:D, my fav gm motor)

so why did i title this thread like this:thinking:....ok, well, when i was pulling the rearend out w/springs attached, the front spring mount(rear springs) had a plate riveted to frame and the hanger that covered the bolt on the inside(looked factory).....i had to take a torch:weld: and cut this plate out to drive the bolt out, why did they do this? did gm, not intend on any1 ever replacing or pulling the rear spring packs? seemed kinda dumb to me!?!??or did it serve a purpose(other than filling full of crud)???

pics to come....i'm planning on a build thread soon and since he kept the frame the swb cc is out:frown1:, so i guess i'm finally going to build my 69 blazer and use a 2nd gen frame b/c the original frame is fubar. i plan on selling all other projects and toys:crazy: to fund this 1.

Well on my truck, I dug out the crud, reached down there with a wrench and put it on the nut. Used the impact on the bolt side, and zipped it right out, grabbed the bolt with my fingers, and pulled it out. I don't understand where the problem is. :dunno:

iirc...the nut was to the outside, and i didn't realize it had that plate until i drove the bolt head into it. maybe i was bakards....i was humping taking this thing apart, i just cut the shackles, maybe i did cut the plate just to get the impact on the nut, i cant remember, but was curious why the plate was there.

i thought so too

Thats a hella of a lot of stuff for 850, solid deal

i was shocked when i had it all stripped and was loading it on the trailer and he asked if i wanted the 454!...i said "what"....literally....then i asked for "how much ya want for it"....he said "take it...i don't want or need it, it needs to be rebuilt tho,..it was smoking."..."sure!"

The plate is there for strength concerns only. It could certainly use a larger hole for the "crud" to fall out. Most out here in the rust belt are so full of junk there simply is no way to get it out and get a wrench down in there from the top side.

Generally I'll take a look at the situation and see how it looks and go for the big thin wheel. Slide it up between the spring hanger and spring and cut the bolt on both sides. Rarely even try an impact anymore on that particular bolt.
