What will be the next garage trend?

I couldn't imagine being down that long.

I started building mine in March and I just did my first "break stuff" run last night (with no headlights).

i could see a year or 2 easy on a rig build up even if its down. easy, a lot of members here are in school and cant afford it.

ps in reguards to who said actally getting out and wheeling instead of working... i dont know how many others are like me, but i LOVE working on the rig as much, if not more than wheeling it. i dont have any serioius wheeling buddies in my city (its all posers in 2wd lifted f150s w/ body lifts  ).

go to www.scbd.org if you want to find some people to wheel with. We have a run coming up next weekend.

My problem is I don't have time to wrench on or wheel my truck. Because of this I end up spending too much time wheeling it and not enough time wrenching on it.

Right now I need to:
Put the steering column back together (been driving it for 2 years with the blinker assembly all taken appart and hanging from the wires)
Fix my rear frame crossmember that is only attached to one side of the truck now
Make a rear bumper (haven't had one for over about 3 years)
Fix the steering box and p/s pump
Build some rock sliders so I don't beat in the rockers till the doors won't open
...

I need to spend more time wrenching on my truck :p:

I think the next garage trend, considering all the replies made, will be tow rigs. What works what doesn't and so on. There must be a bunch of trailer queens all about to be finished.(Like mine)

Kert, have you missed the Cummins threads?

Sadly I can. I've only wheeled a few times in the last year. I wheeled the crap out of my 89 Burb(stock height and size tires), so much so I had to junk it(body mounts ruined). Should be wheeling b the middle of the summer. Waiting on my motor work to be done. Then its just the SFA work and ready to go. :D

i love working on my chit as much i as i like wheeling it. even if i do get frustrated and hit it with a crowbar...

My rig was so middle of the road when I got it, I have a lot of work to do. I first spent more making the thing a daily driver than I spent on the rig itself. New tires, breaks, shocks etc... I still need a tailgate that doesn't flop open on a bump and has a window. Then, I just want a new tranny with overdrive on it and a decent lift. A crappy one color paint job would be nice too. I'm happy after that.

Maybe the next fad will be getting out and actualy wheeling and working on driving skills rather than getting cought up in a neverending build in an effort to keep up with what all the cool kids are doing.

How can you know what you realy want or actualy need if ya dont go out and play :D

You dont need a tapered boatsided bobbed rig with a locked 14 bolt,Dana 60,doubler,EFI,and huge tires to actualy get out and have fun like some may lead folks to believe.

Chris

Amen on that thought!

I understand how some people like working on the rig more than driving it, but I do think it's kinda' funny watching some people change build-up directions several times over 3-4 years.......and then wind up selling the 3/4 complete project before ever wheeling it. Overall I think a lot of people get caught up in the "have to have all the goodies before I can go wheelin'" stage.

I third on that. I keep getting the "when you goin' 1 ton?" BS. The time and $$$ to go one ton, I can blow up 10 ten bolts and have two years of seat time under me. I'm out to have fun, not climb Mt. Everest.

Yeah, but trying to drag a truck off a trail with a blown up axle is definitely no fun.

If you adjust your driving style or choice of trails to something that's suitable for the setup than you can lot's of fun. The biggest problem I see are people who want to run the really difficult trails but refuse to spend the money to upgrade the rigs accordingly. You are going to break occassionally, but nobody wants to ride with the guy who breaks every time out because he's pushing the rig too hard for how it's built.
