I need to go pick up my 14 bolt and stick it in the back of a truck... how heavy are these things??? is it possible for one decently sized guy to pick up one side at a time and stick it in a pickup bed? I could take the drums off if needed.. should i get anouther guy to help out???

Well I had help (one guy), and I'm pretty sure I couldn't have done it on my own. I'm not what you'd call a big guy though...

It weighs in the neighborhood of 500 pounds. Loading one alone totally sucks! Heck, it isn't easy to do even with two people. :eek1:

my buddy picked up one side him self and got it in. Like you are saying one side at a time. Then again its also the same buddy that lifts motors out buy himself. :eek1:

depends on if you want to keep the boys in the sack......really get help. Your back will thank you later in life.

If you have to ask, you can't do it. I tried and tried to get mine in the back of my 6"lifted blazer to no avail. Call someone to help you.

i think it's doable with one guy - as long as your truck bed isn't too high. you'd be better having another with you tho. what i think makes it easiest is to have a rope (make sure to bring gloves, otherwise it kinda hurts) and put the rope under the axle tube. Then, squating on the truck tailgate holding both ends of the rope, stand up and get the one side up on the tail gate. you can probably figure it out from there. that's what i would do. it would make this process a helluva lot easier to do if you have a 4 wheel dolly under the other end of the axle so that it moves easily and you don't have to drag it.

Amen to mouse: cherry picker / engine hoist.

Failing that, a come-a-long on your lumber rack.

Failing that, more than one person, preferably three, all of whom can swear well =))

I have a come along. I think i am going to rig up a bar to go across my bed sides, and stick into the stake holes, something i can have the come along slide across... I can wrap one end around the axle, and the other end to my bed, or the 1/2 inch plate welded to the bottom of the bed... I appreicate the help guys.. My back is messed up enough!!! I have no problem getting a 10 bolt in and out, but im not going to try the 14 bolt.. thanks guys...

do what I did with mine...chain it to a backhoe bucket and lay it down in the bed of the truck

3 of us loaded one into a truck. It was heavy and wrecked Mike's tailgate:eek1: I really should stop touching that tailgate, oh well. They are really really heavy, Make sure you have help.

If you are on good terms with a AAA tow operator and have a current card give that a whirl. I don't exactly endorse this but hey what the heck you can give it a whirl

Where in So Cal are you located? I'm down for the week on work and may be able to give you a hand if you need it. I don't have anything to do when I'm not at work, so I get pretty bored.
