what would cause a fuse to get so hot you can't touch it???

yeah, the truck sat for like 8 hours, and it was burning f'n hot. would the breaker trip with the truck off. i did notice when i put the 5amp fuse in, that there was a draw on that particular circuit, door locks i geuss right???? i dunno, but all i know is the 5amp is so far so good.

That all depends on whether it is a switched or hot circuit. I'm trying to recall, are there any switched to power, as opposed to switched to ground circuits?

Radio memory would draw if it were wired up that way.

Can't recall on the door locks either.

That circuit for the door locks should be constant hot, and it is probably set to run the radio memory. The lock cylinders themselves should not draw power unless the buttons are pressed. These are hot switched, but there is one circuit that is ground switched, but that is the dome light system.

fireplug, how did you figure out which side it was????

it's too dark to switch breakers right now, no dome lights in truck, since i bought it.

on a side note, if it was a short of some type, wouldn't it blow the 5amp fuse for sure???

i played the radio, and locked/unlocked doors ALOT of times, and the fuse is fine.

im back to the idea of getting a clean uncut harness... it owuld be some nice piece of mind and a great way to get to know the truck..:D

New harness is currently set in my plans for Phase 2 or 3 depending on whether I do the body or the interior first. I am thinking I may do the body first as Phase 2 then do the interior as Phase 3 and replace the entire harness with a new one. I won't even try to explain the disaster that I found when I looked under the dash the first time, at least I found the wire that ran direct to the battery and was hanging bare underneath the dash.

well, i was rolling my windows down today, and zap!!!! i heard it in the drivers door. and then the radio door locks stopped working. when i undid my door panel, two of the wires coming from the window switch were pulled out, and they go to the door lock mechanism. what the hell???? this is kickin my ass guys!!!!!! im gonna pull them all out now and see what happens.

well, they're like crimped in there...it's the 5wire plug on the back of the window switch. i recon ill be off to the junk yard tomm. to try to find one.

Soldering is a cheap and effective repair. Have you found a wiring diagram yet to sort it all out?

i did, thank you very much. i just need a good connector, i think im gonna get one from a yard and splice/solder it in. this one is pretty hacked/f'd up. thanks guys, i think i may have solved my fuse/circuit breaker issues.
