What would the stock power train be in a 81 1/2 Ton 4WD pick up ????

could be a 350 or 400 trans and probley a 205 transfer unless it full time the it was a 203 /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif

400 trans? I am 99.9999% certain it would not be a 400. I have never heard of a 400 trans in a half ton stock.

This truck has factory lock outs up front, so I don't belive it's fulltime.

well then its a 350 trans and a 205 case /forums/images/graemlins/k5.gif /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif

Would a 81 have round headlights ??? This truck does. Owner said it's a 81, but I think it might be alittle older then that.

If it's an '81, it would be a TH350 or SM465 and NP208. An '80 would have had a TH350 or SM465 and a NP205. From what I gather, 1979 was the last year of the NP203, 1980 was the 205 in everything, and 1981 was the first year of the 208 for 1/2 and 3/4 tons and still the 205 in 1-tons.

The one in the picture looks older than an '81. '81 was the 1st year of the slanted nose and square headlights (except ofr the factory option recatangular headlights in some trucks in '80 models). But anyway, looks like an '80 or older truck by the pic. '80 still had the vertical side marker lenses, '81 had horizontal marker lenses.

Shifter handle in the cab should identify the t-case w/out having to crawl under. Round handle indicates a 205, handle with flat sides indicated a 203 and a round handle that angles foreward with a console around it attached to the floor that lists the t-case positions is a 208.

If it's an automatic, I'm sure its a TH350. Most likely the whole truck will be as follows:

350 motor, TH350, NP203 (or 205), 12 bolt rear, and Dana 44 or 10 bolt front.

Yep, that's definitely NOT an '81. Thats an '80 or older truck.

It will have a 350 or 465 and either the 203 or 205 t-case. Rearend will be the 12 bolt and front axle can be either the D44 or 10 bolt.

Assuming the body has never been molested, the truck in the picture is a 78 - 80 (old body style + bed has a door for gas filler).

And...... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Also, the paint scheme/trim falls into the '73-'80 era trucks. /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
