What would this be?

My buddy has a rear D60 I assume from a Ford (am I allowed to say that word here?) anyway it has a three wire electrical connection going to the pumpkin. What would this be? I can't imagine a temp guage requiring three wires and I have never heard of a factory electric locker on a Ford. Any ideas?

IIRC some year fords had a VSS on the pinion instead of the tcase or transmission

edit: now i think about it some more, it was the ford ABS (RWAL?) sensor that was on the pinion.

Yep that would be the rear wheel abs sensor. Gots one on my f-250 I know, I know, its a ford but I just counter balanced it by buying me a pretty straight 72 chevy long bed Im gonna restore. It will be nice to have a sweet offroad blazer and a classic truck.

ya thats the third ABS sensor on the ford's goes to the tail shaft
