Okay here is the set up. I recently got a 74 Jimmy from my grandpa. He bought it new in 74 and has not driven it the past couple years. I needed a 4wd so he would rather see family use it than it just sit there and waste. It only has 47,000 miles. When I got it it was in need of some TLC. My 94 year old grandpa is well kind of cheap:wink1: So here is a list of things that I have done. My question is what upgrades or mods have you guys done that you really like. I am not looking to turn this into a monster truck or anything. I don't really want a lift and I don't want to do anything to the power train or axles. It has the 350, TH350. NP203, Dana 44 front.

What I have done:
-new spark plugs
-I will be putting in the MSD HEI dizzy. and new wires
-all new belts and hoses
-all new synthetic fluids
-all new Steward Warner gauges
-added a transmission temp gauge
-added a transmission cooler
-all new poly bushings and mounts, body, motor, transmission, basically if a bushing or mount can be changed out to the poly it has been done.
-Monroe Reflex shocks front and rear
-New battery
-Radiator roded and flushed
-New gaskets on front and rear diff, new valve cover gaskets
-upgraded to 16" tires (265 75 16) that is as big as I want to go
-New ceramic brake pads and new calipers in front, and new pads cylinders and springs in the rear
-new air filter, fuel filter

Its seems like I am missing stuff but that is the major stuff. So any thoughts on what you would do next?

Sounds like you are off to a good start. I say leave it stock and just drive it.

Maybe a carb rebuild, or how about an updated exhaust system :dunno: , you have hit all the basics, and yes post some pics :D

A carb rebuild is definitely in the plans as is a updated exhaust system. The exhaust that is on it right now is totally shot. I was thinking of the turbo dual exhaust system from LMC. The price seems pretty good. Has anyone ever tried those out? or any thoughts on that idea?

part time kit for the 203 and hubs :)

I have heard some mixed reviews on the part time kit. Some have said it will create a weak point in the t-case and it does not really help mileage at all. I know there are other advantages other than gas mileage but the weak spot in the t-case worries me a little.:dunno:

Okay I am having trouble posting pics. Its asks for a URL. I right click on the pic and go to properties and I don't see a URL. I see a location but when I cut and past that nothin shows up in my post. Any suggestions?

The easiest way I have found to post pics is through photo bucket. Once you have them loaded into P B , simply copy the 2nd option (http something) , then click on the little picture icon at the top of the CK5 posting screen, and paste it in . If that makes any sense :D :doah:

I upload to photobucket, then copy the image url. then I come here and paste the image's URL between the [ img ] [ /img ] tags...

Photobucket does have a pre-set addy for bulletin boards for each pic. If you click on your pic from your album there the fullsize pic comes up, on the right side you'll see "IMG code". Click on it and it'll briefly say "copied". Come here and click paste...you're done.

I am one tire away from having a matching set. I will get the last one very soon. Its kind of a long story how I ended up with two different tires. I will be running the Cooper Discoverer ATR. That is what is on the rear right now and so far I really like them. This isn't a strictly off-road truck so that is why I went with this tire and ;). Aux lights are a great suggestion and somthing I have given some thought. Any thoughts on what aux lights?

Ya I am really lucky living where I do. The truck spent all its life in New Mexico (that is where my grandpa lives) tell now. I live in Arizona so rust is not really a issue. There is a few little spots on the lower end of the body but nothin major at all. I had stripped the entire inside down took out all the carpets and seats and there was a little rust in the driver and passenger floor boards but I took care of that no problem. Before I put the carpet back in I put that nice tough foil back insulation down and that really has helped with the sound and heat (heat a major problem in the desert).

Ya my plan is to leave it as close to stock as possible. Just putting the 16" tires on lifted it close to four inches from the factory standard that was on there. Man those were small dinky looking tires :haha:

I am having a problem with saggy a$$ syndrome though and it is kind of pissin me off. I need to measure it out but I am thinking a set of zero rates will cure that issue.

Also the driver side door is out of whack also. I'm not sure if you can tell in the second pic but when closed it sticks out about half a inch or so. Its sagging a little as well.....its hitting a little low on the striker

Thanks for the nice comments on the truck and keep the suggestions coming!!!

Gorgeous truck!

The only thing I would do to that would be to keep it as stock as possible. Trucks like that are rare and hard to find.

yeah, that thing looks good stock.

Also, new door pin bushings will keep the door from sagging and allow the door to seal in the door frame and shut correctly. Not that hard to do, got to pull the pins in your hinges to get to the bushings.
