The 700R trans in my 90 burban is trashed. There are several options to go with, all at different cost levels. I would like your opinions and ideas.
Should I just go with a 400?
I am going to use the Burb to tow the Blazer.

A rebuild with the latter year upgrades , a big ass cooler , and some regular oil changes . You'll be fine using a 700 again . Its not accepted in the majority , but who cares anyway . Save gas and have a nice 1st gear :thumb:

I thought of another idea.
What if I get the stage 2 from bowtieoverdrives or 700raptor instead of the stage 3, (save some cash) and put it in the Blazer and put the old blazer trans in the Burban. 90 and 91 take the same trans.

I have sworn off automatics! Put in a 4 speed and be nekkid! Otherwise I'd go with a 400.

I would just rebuild your 700r4 with the upgrades or get a th400 and never worry about your trans again.

If you went with any of the 700r4 options, you sure could tow easily and use less gas. Then again, i dont see you towing your blazer much faster than 60 so you would be ok with a non OD transmission. You know how much I hate slushboxes but if it were me, i'd throw the 400 in there just for the strength.

Nevermind, i'm with Kurt! 4 spd the blazer and throw the 700 in the burb! I know, I know, it's only about the 100th time i've tried talking you into it but.... Hey, there is that 465/205 combo up in McKinney. Hmmmm, dont you wanna have a poor mans doubler? Dont you wanna drop some clutch?

I'm not going to put a 4 speed in the Blazer. If I put a 400 in it I would have to regear the axles or go doubler because I only have 4.56 gears now. The price of regearing to 5.13 would offset the price of going cheap on the trans.

The burb has 4.56's?

You are both auto destroying couscouses. Put in a real transmission with big gears and stuff.

If your willing to pay $1800 for a Stage 3 you might want to think about a NV4500, all the reliablity plus overdrive...

I'm sticking with an auto. It's 500.00 for a 400 to 241 adapter. It's a grand to regear the Blazer to 5.13. Why is it that everything I want to do is in 500.00 incriments.
I should just sell it all and buy a bigger TV. This hobby is too expensive, I should take up whitteling.

I voted $1800 bowtie. I found a local shop that specializes in hotrods and told them I wanted it to handle 500hp. They pretty much did everything that BT would have done but for $1500 local. I didn't have to pay any shipping. If I wanted, I could have saved $160 and did the removal and install myself.

That being said, If I had the time, tools, and resources, I would like to have done the whole rebuild myself. Maybe I will pick one up at a junkyard to rebuild this winter for a spare.
