it looks like i'm about the be the owner of a new (ok, built in 2004) house with a 3-car garage. since i currently only have 2 trucks, i need to decide what to do with the third bay. still want it to be able to hold a vehicle since a c4 vette may be next on my list (yes, i like them better than c5s. c6=too pricey right now). i was thinking workbench, of course. and a place to shove my engine hoist and stuff. and i'm definitley putting my beer fridge out there.

Use the third bay for your tools, large stuff, work bench, an open area to do projects such as doublers axles ect. WHEN you get your vette park the truck outside where it wont feel caged in, or trapped. Trucks dont like to be indoors very much anyway.

The way you're describing it makes it sound like too MUCH garage space.

I never realized such a thing existed. :dunno:

haha. nah, it won't be too much. i just don't want to cram random junk in when i could do something cool instead. at the very least it will be room to allow full door-opening with no dings. i have quite a few large items to eat space, too. engine hoist, floor jack w/stands, golf clubs, radial arm saw, plenty of tools, K5 TOP! the air hockey table will probably go in one of the extra bedrooms. i don't think anyone would want to play in the texas heat.

the third bay has a door to the back yard. normal door, not garage. so, i could curtain off that area, use the door with a fan for ventilation and paint stuff in there.

might stick a tv in there since it already has coaxial cable run into it.

Workbench definitely belongs on the far end of the garage, not the side walls (too tight with car doors, etc.)

Use the up-high areas on the side walls for overhead storage. I usually build a 18" to 24" shelf (measured from the ceiling down) for bankers boxes, large tupperware totes, etc... it gets a lot of things out of the way and doesn't make getting the cars in/out any less convenient.

If you have attic space above the garage, build some stairs to get to it. Those pull-down attic doors really limit the usefulness of that extra space...

Overhead cord reels and air hose reels would be really nice too....a lot less likely to snag on the tire of a parked car that way....plus they coil up cleanly and leave the shop looking neat when you're done.

I filled mine to the gills so I can't even work on anything in it:doah:
