Ok so I'm a sucker for good vintage off road equipment.

My 75 has a Rickard Compartment bumper with twin gas can slots, hi-lift, full size spare etc.

Love it.

So I just found a matching front bumper, guy wants 900 bucks its pristine but damn that's a lot of money. This will put a dent in my paint fund for sure.

Would you do it? They aren't making any of these anymore.

Could you get one fabbed for less than $900? If not, there's your answer.

Remember- if your hobby revolves around four wheels, you have to get past the point where you feel the need to justify the money you spend on "stuff". If you like it, or need it, or "think" you need it, throw down the bills and don't look back.

You say your rear bumper is vintage? Please expound. This front one says custom, so it's a one-off and not a collector item. The other perspective is that $900 buys you the welder, the accessories and the steel. If you want to buy, certainly try offering less than his asking price. It's already been up at least a month. You get get a quote from DIY4x and use that as a guideline.

Bumpers were built by Phil Rickard in southern cal in the 70's and 80's google it.

I got him down to 900 from 1200.

It's been on Craigslist for a month. He's obviously not had much luck. I think I'd offer $600 and tell him good luck. I bet he come around to the offer by the time the ad expires. Of course, I won't be the one with hurt feelings when it sells to someone else. I can't imagine the market is booming for these old bumpers. The non period correct guys are definitely going to spend the money on something else. Good luck.

Yeah I've thought about it and I'm not gonna do it. I can't justify what dude wants for it no matter how cool it is.

Not worth $900 IMO
Vintage means nothing for bumpers unless you are restoring something that had that bumper from a movie or something.

I mostly just wanted it because they're extremely rare and I have the rear already. I haven't found one ever for sale otherwise.

I really would love a complete Warn classic, Warn enforcer, Warn transformer, Ramsey spacer style or anything Hickey. Haven't seen one for sale in years. Last hickey brushguard I saw for sale was 500.00 and 4-5 years ago.

Somewhat on topic...does anyone remember the guard on the front of the old Ford pickup in one of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequels? Now that was one hot piece of iron as I recall! Anyone know what that was? A quick search online shows no results I can see.
