I`m really needing to make a decision on my exhaust situation. As of now I`m going to running pipes straight back from the headers (hedman 69830s) right into mufflers. The question is, what mufflers? I`m not wanting to spend too too much on exhaust incase I ended up changing it sometime (ie putting in a crossover pipe, x or h pipe). I don`t want this to be insanely loud either, as I'd rather keep the cops off my back. Dual glasspacks going to be too loud

For good performance with moderate sound, get some flowmaster 70 series mufflers.

Ditto.

I had dual glasspacks on my truck and they arent that loud. They are very quiet at idle and just putsing and when you really get on it they are as loud as a flow 50.

I have 3" dual single chamber flowmasters and its a tad on the loud side at cruise rpms. I also have a gutted interior and no carpet, so that does take away any sound deadening I would have had though. From outside the truck it sounds great idling and hearing it drive. You hear it coming up the street and you start looking for some kinda chevelle or something, not a k5.

If you still after a good sound, thats not to loud... do what I did. H pipe from summit ~35 bucks, then two thrush welded ~35 bucks each depending on the time. I got two thrush welded for 40 bucks from advanced auto when they had a sale. Nice low end sound, but it does not annoy the **** out of you when you are at 55. I hear my tires more then the exhaust, that could be the no doors thing too though.

The Flo-pro (or Pro-flow, I can't remember) mufflers I have on my 81 let you know there is a V8 underhood, but aren't loud unless romped on. I went with 18" long mufflers so bring the tone down, too.

i would just go to a muffler shop and ask them about their mufflers. they have off brands that are real quiet. or just throw some glasspacks and be done with it haha

Are you running cats? I'm thinking when I go duals that I'll run single chambers..

My single Flowmaster 40(3" in/out) rumbles pretty good at idle and sets off car alarms, but the p/o removed the cats. I'm kind of surprised I haven't gotten a warning at least.. I know in Vancouver they have a hard on for modified exhaust(at least for honda's with big ass fart cans that are visible).

Magnaflow sounds good without being too loud..

3" single exhaust through a Gibson muffler with tail pipe exiting behind the tire. Fairly quiet until you romp on it. Keep in mind that a single 3" exhaust will produce more low end torque than a true dual 2.5" exhaust will. The true duals will get you more top end power at the expense of low end torque.

i had no idea what they were until i looked it up :doah: anyone use em?

I was being a smartarse... :p::wink1:

They're big bucks... I always wanted to run a set on my Chevelle.. Actually, I'm sure they could be worked into a bada$$ truck system, but I've never seen em in here, but I'd bet someone here has run em on a hotrod tho...

the only problem with that is time, and know how. I just don`t think I can get this done quick and cheap in my driveway

anyone here have an exhaust made up from the headers back? What it run ya?

the crappy part would just be the y pipe....

thrush welded, is that the dual chambered? If so I have the same muffler. Single exhaust though. It's pretty tame at idle and when you get on it, it sounds nice. deep rumble. I don't know how it sounds at cruising rpm though

i got 2 flowmaster 40 knockoffs (30 bucks a piece cant beat it) dumped. not very loud at all. I love it

I had mine done from the headers back while I was up in Virginia. He installed 2 high flow cats and 2 Flowmaster 40 series tucked up pretty well exiting out the stock locations with 2.5" pipe and I think it ran about $600. That was the cheapest I could find in that area. I had a cat back installed in Dallas a few years ago and it ran me $250 or so.

40 series are by no means quiet though.

I had a local guy do my exhaust, $100 for 2.5" dual pipes from the headers back with glasspacks.
