And the reason for wantin to do this is the rear bumper is pretty bad.

how do you paint over chrome. Would it work if i took my Dual action sander with 80 grit, would that be enough for the paint to stick?

I'm wanting to paint my bumpers as well. I was told that even self-etching primer won't grab onto chrome very well. You may need to sand it down, or have it media blasted.

Yep, 80 grit on DA, then prime and paint. Not sure the black would look good on yours though.

white looks pretty crappy and cheap.
I dont know i suppose anything would look better than rusty chrome. or my Mexi-Chrome touch up. lol

You could have them blasted, but I would just try some 320 or 400 just to scuff the crome up and use self etching primer and paint. I have never herd of self etching primer not sticking to crome, I may be wrong but its worth a try. I thing scuffing it is the key. Keep all the sanding in a grain direction too. Just my .02 cents.

I had a rear bumper I just threw out. Crap I would of give it to ya. Me thinks the flat black looks bad (as in ewwwww). I would go gloss white. Or you could paint it Argent eastwood sells it and VHT has one too.

This is just one mans opinion, but I would only go painted (any color) as a temporary solution. Save your money and stay with the chrome in the long run. That's a bummer, because I just gave away a perfect bumper about a month ago.

Well its accualy a tempory fix, cause this spring i am gonna do a custom front bumper, then a custom rear when i get some more money.

That reminds me i gotta order some paint, I found a set of stock rally's for $50 and there in really good shape, Gonna go take a better look this weekend, and possible buy them. good price concidering the local junkyards want $45 per wheel.

Well if it is only a year then scuffem and paint them argent. Chrome paint sux it turns crappy.

Yeah, I say go with the argent paint too, since it's a temp solution.

Ya eithier way i have to wait till its warmer. It probaly 25 degrees right now.

Ya what i was doing before is just touchin up little spots with chrome in a can (or mexi-chrome as my friend calls it)

I did some head light trim with rustolem silver and it worked great. I would of taken a picture today but have been in bed all day due to pain. Here is the before I will try to go get picture of after Tuesday.

Notice it is kinda white GM says it was Fawn (strange color). So I was like what the heck I have nothing to lose. I was looking at replacing them when I paint the truck. So out came the rattle can and BAM. It looks good so when I take picture I will post the after below.
