what ya'll know about these?

i was given a Mead Morrison 2u512 Winch today, supposedly works...its a 10 ton pto winch that is just freakin HUGE! i googled it and seems they came on large military trucks, but thats all i can find on it. i'd like to find someone who needs it and sell it or trade it for another that is right size for a regular truck. this winch came off a truck that hauled the huge cotton modules, this winch pulled the module up onto the truck..and i just don't need a winch w/ 7/8'' or 1'' cable spooled on it! who, besides the farmers, can use such a monster? who should i look for that would want this behemoth? ebay is prolly a no go b/c of weight and shipping cost, so any idea of the type of local industry that may need it?

You could try mud bogger type guys I know they will sometimes rig up a extraction rig with a huge winch.

you could use regular sized nylon winch rope to make it lighter lol and just think you could have like 500ft of it !!!

That type of winch could probably do it!!



I used to work for Pacific Bell, and have seen the line crews use those winches to pull cable through underground conduits and into manholes. The winches need to be that big since the cables can be up to 3 1/2" dia, and very heavy. Some of the pulls can be over 1000' long.

You could try to sell or give it to any utility company....cable, phone or electric....or private owned companies too. They usually have mechanics who can install and repair them.

hmmm, i wonder what it weighs, i could put it in the rear up against the cab w/1/2'' cable and like was mentioned have enuff cable to unstick some1, w/o having to get in the slop myself, that would be kinda nice if they are in DEEP gumbo and a rescue vehicle runs the risk of getting stuck itself. i could wind enuff 1/2'' cable on its spool, i could pull them out at the edge of the river, while i'm still sittin on top of the mississippi river levee...lol....i'm scared it will make my truck less mud worthy b/c of the shear weight of the thang....heck a spool full of 1/2'' cable by itself would prolly weigh as much as the winch itself, if not more....it would make a good recover winch though...pull a rusty truck in half. i don't think a 1/2 or 3/4 ton frame would like it riden on it, maybe my truck coming into halves!
