What year did they switch to metric o-ring fittings on the P-Pump and steering box?

Got a bad P-Pump in my '79 K20. I have x2 pumps sitting in the garage, one that takes the standard flare fittings and one that takes the metric fittings.

Figured I'd ask before I pulled the power steering lines.

The thread directly below this one indicates that it's 1980+ for metric. I can't confirm, but that's what I've read.

Cool beans, thanks!

Figured I'd ask and know which pump to grab/ clean up from the garage before I swapped the screeching one out.

It doesn't matter if you find a standard fitting pump. The output fitting on the pump unscrews and you can just replace it with your metric one.

What does matter is to make sure you get a pump with the proper mounting pattern for your engine accessory bracket

The pre '80 pump that I have came off of a K10 and should work.

The newer one came off of a '92 K1500 with a 4.3 and was mounted in a serpentine pulley setup.

Haven't really compared them against eachother to see if the share the same bolt patterns on the pump itself.

I'm gonna be using an aluminum bracket from ICT Billet to mount the pump.

I have an S10 V6 pump in shop that fit a serpentine bracket off 1990 and different serpentine bracket off of a 1998 350. The V6 used the same bracket into the mid 2000s. So the same pattern.

I'm gonna be using some aftermarket aluminum brackets for the p-pump and alternator. The pump I'm gonna be using is from a pre '80 K10 that was previously in a factory v-belt setup.

My other pump came off of a '92 K1500 4.3L that used the factory aluminum serpentine brackets.

I have a 2wd box from an 80's C10 that I was planning on using that 4.3L p-pump with. As mentioned before I'm not sure if the bolt pattern in the pump is the same as the older one that I'll be putting in this weekend.

Hopefully I'll be able to swap in the newer pump down the road for crossover while keeping my aluminum brackets.

I am sure the pump pattern is the same up to 1998 for 350 and v6. Don't have any
information to add for the LS
