Yesterday i was at work and a mid 90's chevy pickup came in, didnt know the year cuz the guy didnt speak english.. it said 2500 on the sides, but i looked down at the axles and they were 5 lug. wtf i was thinking? i looked at teh rear axle and in huge ass letters on the diff cover it said "SPICER" it looked equivilant to a 14 bolt or something big...

i am assuming this truck was bought down in mexico cuz it was all in Kilometers and what not.. so my question is, what rear end is this? any ideas?

D60 or 70?

And a way to tell years... Chevy's: '88 to '93 had the flat style grill.(no hump across the center and old style dash).. '94 to 99' They had the hump center bar grille and the new style dash..(with some small changes to the dash through these years)...

I might be wrong, but I thought the dash changed in '95. In fact, I'm almost positive. I know my '95 GMC has the "new" & my buddy's Z-71 has the old (but I'm not 100% its a '94, almost but not quite). Anyone confirm???

i did not know gm made a 5 lug 2500, i know they made a 6 lug 2500 but..

did you run the vin ?

glovebox label ?

door label ?

dont forget canada uses km's

and other countries,

usa is mph oddball pretty much

run the vin code ?

badges original or someone swapped them ?

Yep, 94/95 is the split for the different style dashes.

When I was hunting for my truck a person told me about an ex railroad truck that had a 10lug rear and 5bolt front (I'm assuming??, he never told me about the front!), I'm pretty certain it was a 4x4 3500HD (had single rear wheels????), or something similar.

I wasn't sure on the dashes. Couldn't remember if they changed the same time as the grilles or not. :thumb:

thats just crazy

id love to see in person

what year truck about ?

next time i see one around here im gonna check it out, sometimes they sit around town on or off tracks, lots of railroads around here, in about every direction from and to here

90% or all of them are 88-up chevies

R72K5 I couldn't believe it myself either!.
I was told about the truck a little over 2yrs. ago now, I don't know for sure that it was in fact a 4x4 (as I've never seen any pictures of the thing), or just exactly what year the thing was,......problem is the guy that told me about it died in that submarine fire (stupid British piece of _hit) not to long ago, so I'll have to see if I can track it down thru the dealership that it was sold thru.

Axle Info

Could It Possible Be The Old Rockwell 12" Rear In A Werd Off Spring Version. And The 3500hd Trucks Were 5lug Frt 10lug Rear Dont Remember A 4x4 Version Of Hd 5/10 Lugs.

Sweetk30 that's probably what the truck was, but single rear wheels????, I saw a 3500HD 4x4 (dually of course) on Ebay once and looked into them a bit more, from what I gather if you wanted a 4x4 version you had to have it converted (ie. sounds like GM never made them at the factory).
