I have a 1984 K5. I want to ditch topper and remove rear tailgate with window/power window motor and go with a pickup truck tailgate. What years will fit?

I think it's 83-91 tailgates, that are the same....
Don't quote me on it tho.

Someone else will pipe up, that's 100%...

Too late, your quoted. lol. Im sure its a wide range of years, so ill see what the other folks have to say.

Afaik, any 73-87(91) pick up gate & hardware will fit. I put one on mine but dont have any idea of the year.

i think that's the case iirc... Avery hooked me up with I think an early 80's for my 87...

I think it is 73-87....don't forget to grab the latch hardware too!

Yep, many people make the mistake when talking about tailgates because they assume all trucks changed in 88, but the crew cab went all the way to 91 with the same design, so technically 73 to 87 regular pickups, and up to 91 crew cabs.:D

Cool deal. Thanks for the info. Has anyone done a "weight challenge" with their K5? Meaning, weigh it and then take off doors, tailgate and topper? I plan to remove the top, get tube doors and truck bed tailgate. Im guessing ill lose 500-600lbs off the K5.

I'm pretty sure any gate fits. But you need the hardware for the year gate you are using.

This is what Ive ran into, which I havent tried every tailgate/truck combination but I swapped several older tailgates on to newer trucks and visa-versa and as long as I had the correct hardware it worked.
