I have a '74 K5 and a '85 CUCV M1009. Both rear windows are shot and so are the handles and opening mechanisms. What year tailgates are direct swaps. Will they both take anything up to '91? I am going to hit some bone yards and try to get power tailgates for both of them.

Tailgates are the same from 1973-1991, the only difference is power or non power.

Hey, I notice you are also in So cal. I have a 73 Chevy suburban C20 that I am going to scrap in the week or so. If the tailgate will work for you, I would rather sell it to someone who will use it vs. sending it to the scrap yard. If you are interested in it, either send me an E-mail at [email protected] or call me at (951) 283-0892. I will let it go for pretty cheap. Make me an offer.

Sub gates will not work, they are different.

Well, unfortunately, the question has been answered. Won't work. It was manual by the way, but according to LMC the power and manual tailgate shells are the same, so you could just swap out the manual stuff, if the sub and K5 tailgates were the same.

if you want to drive up to the fresno area i have one that is for power tailgate, you can have it. it's just sitting out at my dads place collecting dust. the window is in decent shape, could use a good cleaning though. i grabbed it off an 84 and installed it, but swapped for a truck tailgate so i dont need it.
