i searched a little and found a pic of a 205 maybe and they said it was divorced, i couldnt see anything fancy about it. what does it mean to divorce a case? like seperate from the trans? what are the benefits of it, sorry if its plainly explained in a few posts below but i have seen that word come up several times recently.

thanks alot!

Exactly , seperated from the trans , usually with a short shaft , or just two yokes and a u-joint . Some manufactures did that so the 2wd and 4wd could share transmissions . Especially seen on kingpin front suspension trucks where both 2wd and 4wd had leaf springs .

I'm not trying to flame you, cause thats not my style and people gotta learn somehow, but how can you have 1200 posts and not know what a divorced case is?

A longer front driveshaft . Although I could imagine a shorter wheelbase rig would have rear shaft problems .

yeah, i've seen a few on blazers and one jeep and the rear driveshaft angle was so steep that they ate u-joints like crazy. using dual cardan joints might solve that problem, but i still don't think it's the ideal setup on a short wheelbase vehicle.

i know this is directed at the original poster but my thoughts are that since it is not so good on a swb vehicle there is no point in knowing. But I dont know much either and I learn new stuff from this site all the time :D

i appreciate the answers guys!

never had any serious tcase problems and while i was searching and looking around, this subject came up a few times.

i have never needed or cared to know what it was until recently, i dont really "see" them being used in a similar application as to where i would need one. im learning as i go along, ive only had my blazer for a few years so im not as in tune with it yet as i could be. 1200 posts are from thing i have learned about and do know something about. its not like i got them overnight like randy lol.

Some people purposely use divorced transfer cases to make their front driveshaft longer (and even to make both shafts the same length so you only need one spare). This really only works on trucks with a lot of wheelbase.

IMO its rarely the solution to much. As was said earlier, the OEM's used divorced transfer cases to have a common transmission between 2 and 4 wheel drive trucks.

whats a divorced tcase?

It's one that grew up and married your average girl.....

...at first, it seemed fun and enjoyable.

then over time, she turned into a Witch..!

.... then they got divorced. :haha:

I'm sure you've heard the story before.... Kinda just the way it goes.

A divorce tcase is where your bitch cheating whore of a wife tells you she is leaving you for your best friend and the kid you had had with her is not yours but because YOU are married to the cVn+, you are going to have to pay child support for the little sh*t thats not even yours. Oh and dont forget the Alamony cause she sat on her lazy ass watching soaps while you worked every weekend for extra money, And dont forget she taking the house.....the car..... your tools...... your k5......your porn collection.......your........ now you better learn what a divorced tcase is cause you dont want one. :D married is allways better.
