I can tell you I rolled my bone stock 89 Jimmy over the scales at work a few weeks ago. We weigh them by axles at work, not total overall weights. So, with some math you could figure your body weight, given front axle weight is: 2670 pounds, rear axle: 2710 pounds. Keep in mind the overall total weight will not necessarily be the sum of both, as each axle will share part of the load from the other. Make sense?

Rolling into my job(produce cooler) I rolled over the scales a few months ago and it was 5300ish showing on the outside display with my ass(215lb) in it.

'91 silverado 4x4 350 k5 31"tires stock!

The front weight and the rear weight added will be your total, there is no magic that removes weight from one end or the other. My stock 90 K5 was 2480 front, 4930 with all 4 on the scale and 2450 rear only. Mine is a pretty stripped down model though.

But plz all. I was hoping for the rolling weight of full stock 90 with out tub or any body parts :) Just the weight of the running gear. Minus body.
My Jimmy with body and me in it weigh 4324 pounds. trying to get it too 4000. But need too know how much our stock trucks weigh with out sheet metal :)
I drove to the scales. I was hoping for some one to have numbers on running gear.
5k with 1 tons :) Man thats nice. I was thinking heavier :)
Plz zero body, But ready too drive if you had a milk crate seat lol.
weight plz :) stock and 1tons now plz :) I need too know. I like light weight :) ty all

So....Just out of curiousity, what are you planning to do once you know this number? What if I tell you it's 3300? What's next? Does it make a difference if I tell you 3700? Or 3800?

What are you going to do if you get it down to 4000?

Im hoping to increase my driveline strength by reducing weight. Just like my 79 cj5 I built. But I like my Jimmy more :) I want as light as i can get. Soo I mean if the running truck with out sheet metal weighs 3500. I now know my realistic goal. I could never make a street legal off roader 3800 lol. Just trying too know the pure min I can make my truck waiegh. I already got it too 4300 and wow. It doesnt even feel like a k5 :) This thing is a Jeep on steroids :) ty and sorry for asking :(
I love my green monster :) near 12 years :) and i will never stop driving it or sell it :)
ty again for replying.

First off, try to avoid texting shorthand (ty plz lol) when you post. I'm not trying to bust your balls - posts like that are hard to read and don't get nearly as many good responses.

You've already got a pretty lightweight transmission and transfer case. It would be tough to find axles that are lighter and would work well in a Jimmy without going to some crazy-expensive race housings.

Now for ways to shave pounds off:
-Get a 4.3L V6, a supercharged or turbocharged 3.8L V6, or an aluminum V8 with aluminum heads and plastic intake OR at least put aluminum heads and intake on your 350
-Get an aluminum radiator. You can find these actually much cheaper than a copper radiator brand new
-Get aluminum driveshafts.
-Do a disc brake conversion on your rear axle.
-Hydroboost would save several pounds versus the vacuum brake booster.
-Get aluminum wheels.
-Get plain old stock size street tires (versus oversized all-terrain or mud terrain).
-Lose all the air conditioning equipment - you shouldn't need it in Vermont anyway.

If you did all these you'd easily be under 4000 pounds.

Sweet. now thats what I was hoping to hear. btw. sorry about my typing. I have aluminum wheels and rad. Gutted heat and air :) removed the rear of the truck with a sawz all :) And whit what shet metal was left. too out all interior. No radio. but yes btw..... I will put tunes in :) Im certified installer :) but now is gutting. My Jimmy has 2 seats.. lol How much do i loose if i skinn the doors, hood, fenders, and roof?

plz i hope to know.

If not Ill Just have too do it lol But was hoping tooo know soo I didnt loose my PS windows lol j/k

The lightest I can think of is full fiberglass body. US Body source even makes "race weight" stuff, but I don't think you can get to a street legal type vehicle like that. If you're interested in a buggy-type build, you could check on some "truggy" weights. Ditch the body, build a cage and mount skins and seats to the cage.

Other ideas I didn't see yet:
-ditch the sway bar
-swap on a pickup tailgate or ditch it altogether.
-Ditch the doors or swap to tube doors
-swap out window glass for polycarbonate
-use small fuel cell instead of gas tank and skidplate
-fill tires with helium instead of air :-)
-Aluminum intake and heads instead of iron (don't know what you have now)
-race seats
-don't fill the gas tank all the way
-go on a diet.

I really like the idea of a SC 3800... I think I saw somebody do it by putting the guts of the SC engine into a Camaro 3.8L block.
