My 30 yr old master cylinder pooped out on me this weekend. Luckily finished the whole weekend without brakes.....that was interesting. Beat taking a pass. seat.
What are you guys using for master cylinders? Please state what brake combo and axle combo you have. If you have hydro boost or not, steel braided hoses or rubber....ect.

I have been extremely happy with my stock 1/2 ton vacuum assisted brake master for years now with my 1 tons axles and 42's. I'm running rear disc brakes (front calipers, not eldo's).

But, if there is something better for cheap I'm all ears.

Also would like to brind some tech on what everyone is running (combo wise) and if they are happy with it.

Aaron.

Just the factory style one with vacume assist from my 87 half ton. It may have been replaced before I owned the truck with an aftermarket but still the same style. I've had it sisnce 94. I run a ff 14 bolt with drums and a 60 with the stock callipers. Always works good. No plans to change.

Thanks for posting. I've read threads about some having trouble with a spongey pedal after a 1 ton swap. I've always thought they just needed to bleed the brakes properly. Many of my Toyota friends do "upgrades" to theirs. Bigger bore master cylinders for better braking. Just wondering if anyone has done anything like that and how it worked out.

Metric master cylinders in 88'. That is why the 99' C3500 bolted up to his 88' vacuum booster. Mine is a 79' with standard fittings. Just got back from getting another 1/2 ton'er. Worked great in the past, why not.

Hey now, don't go stealing my name! (Dayum, two Aarons...)

Anyway, I'm big on stock masters.

The K5 is 8-lug 10b / 14BFF, disc/disc, 3/4 ton fronts in front (duh!) Eldo calipers in back, runs just fine on a stock, vacuum boost, 1/2 ton master. Lines are braided. In 4:1 low with the Doubler I'd like a bit more bite, but that may just be my pads being glazed. I might do hydroboost someday as I'm suspicious of vacuum boost in general, but I can whang on the pedal now and she'll throw you through the windshield.

On my sixpack, which has a totally custom hacked brake system, I've been through a few of the P30 van masters -- for hydroboost and allegedly disc/disc -- and I've gone back to the stock, C30 hydroboost, disc/drum master cylinder. It works just as well, it fits, and it doesn't wear out the way the P30's did. :dunno:

My brakes kick ars! 76K5 with 4 wheel disc on 1 ton axles. Using factory booster with an 78 chevy 1 ton MC on the front- have PN if you need it. All 5 SS braided lines. The fronts use the factory 3/16" line and get 100% power outta the MC to a new T on the crossmember. The rear is factory 1/4" line with a Wilwood Adj Prop Valve plumbed into it.

Rear calipers are from an 83ish 3/4 4x4 front.

Yeah, post up the part number. If I don't use it, I'm sure someone else might find it helpful.

Hey Aaron, I hear ya. I could throw you into the dash bar with my brakes before. Just ask my wife :o

89 blazer, 1 ton axles, rear disc with Eldo calipers, braided brake lines and running stock master and prop valve with vacuum booster. I couldn't be happier, the thing will stop on a dime and give you $.09 change.
