Supposed to look at a 465 and transfer case from an 86 truck tonight after work.
Assuming it has the bell housing and is in working condition, what's a good price on this?
Looking to get rid of my 400/203

I'm not 100% sure on what they're going for now, but when I lived in Akron I picked one up for $150 and thought I got a pretty sweet deal. Was bellhousing, 465/205 from a 79. I picked up a hydro bell and put it in my 72. All said and done with new flywheel and clutch and all hydraulics was around $800 iirc. Not sure if that helps or not...

I'm looking at about $375 for trans, tcase, bell housing and drive shafts.

Seems like a solid deal if it's in good condition. Does it come with the clutch hydraulics? If not you'll be looking at around $120 for mc, hose and slave plus the cost of the flywheel and clutch. May see if he'll come down a little bit just because.

Dunno. Haven't seen it yet.

Got one for 250 last time I needed parts. Didn't have bell or driveshafts though. So if it fits your truck and are correc length that will help the transfer of new parts. If you can get the pedals it would be a much easier swap as well. Under 400 if its all there and doesn't need anything seems like a decent deal. I'd replace the clutch unless it looks like its in good shape. It's a pain if you get it in and have to pull it again because the clutch or throw out bearing is not as good as it looks. Make sure the clutch fork is there as well.

I'm assuming it will fit. And I hope he has pedals. Haven't seen any hydro trans trucks in the junkyards.

I forgot about the pedals...I found a set for mine on ebay. Also, I made the mistake of trusting Napa's hydraulics and thought I had a weird throwout bearing problem. Wound up taking the trans out 2 extra times and buying a really expensive throwout bearing before realizing my new mc was bad:doah:

Sounds like a good time.

Or.... I could leave the automatic in and put a part time kit on the 203.
But I really want to do away with the full time stuff. And I'd like someday to put some form of od in so I can pass more than one gas station at a time.
So to put in a trans that I will only use for a year or three might not be money well spent.

In that case I'd be looking for an NV4500 if I were you.

Maybe I should. Does it have the same output and bolt pattern as the465?

I'm not positive on that one. I think it'll bolt up to a 205 though if I remember correctly. I'd do a search just to be sure. But if you go that route you'll have a strong 5 speed manual. I'd like to go that route eventually in mine.

Those things are expensive. Found several on cl for 13-1500.
A guy could buy a lot of gas for that.
