I'm planning to sell my 90 K5. It has decent paint, 255K Miles, couple dents, original interior, 3/4 ton running gear with 4:56 gears, 36 14.50 IROK's on 15" black steel wheels. (zero miles on the tires but they are old, it's been sitting), tranny is a GM 700R4 with cooler with 20K miles on it (was bought from GM dealership not rebuilt by a local shop). Some front fender trimming, engine runs good but does smoke a little at start up, good battery, new fuel pump, nothing wrong under the hood. It has broken shock mounts which I plan to fix and will replace the shocks with the correct length which is why shock mounts are broken, headliner is junk, seats are decent. It needs a new windshield which I plan to replace. I need to spend about $800 to get it registered since I never put it in non-op and CA is a communist state. Clean title, owned it since around 1998. The front diff has two different types of locking hubs but they work. It has the ORD frame steering weld in kit and bolt in brace for the steering gear, gear is newer. Nothing leaks. I went through some OCD years on CK5 with this rig but kids did their sports, I bought a boat, and a bigger house with a pool and never finished the K5. I need it sold. AC was converted to R134A a while back and it works. All the power windows work but they are slow. Power locks work. Steering column is tight. I replaced it a while back with a used one. No key needed. Don't know why but you can start it without a key. I will attach some pics shortly. I am looking for a sand rail and I live in San Diego, the home of the SAN DIEGO CHARGERS.

"What's it worth" threads belong in the classifieds, not the lounge (or anywhere else) so I moved it.

If you are going to sell it, the things you plan to fix will probably cost more than the gain in value from fixing them. As is, I'd expect around $2000 if you sell it out of state where the registration doesn't need to be paid and not fixing any of the issues. That is what I got out of my '89 I just sold to a guy in Kansas with a similar level of things to fix. Spend $1000 fixing stuff and you might get 50 cents on the dollar for what you spend.

Thanks for moving to the right forum and thanks for the advice on not fixing things I shouldn't fix. I like to sell things with a little confidence that whoever buys it isn't going to be calling me trying to return it. I will clean it up and throw it on craigslist and see what happens.

If everything worked properly, you'd really broaden you prospective buyer pool. First thing to go through someone's mind is "why is the shock broken?" Second thing is, "what else is wrong w/ the truck?" Remember, a lot of people aren't as handy w/ wrenches as many of the people on here. They might want a truck but aren't confident in tearing into a front end.

So, I got it out again, spent some time with it and took it to the local field with my dog. Its a capable ass truck. Not gonna give it away for sure. I'm gonna fix the little things and see how I feel about this thing. It can be a driver for one of my kids if anything. Was hoping to get a couple grand from it for my buggy fund but I think it's worth more than that. Plus the AC works and the tires are brand new. Life is complicated. I spent more time on thinking about this thing 10 years than I can imagine. Yeah it needs a windshield and headliner, but who cares. Get them taken care of, a year from now, it needs a little less. :waytogo:

We all go through the highs and lows of having a K5. I've had myself near to selling mine more than a few times...but I always calm down, see the little issues for what they are and keep it. Often I've seen guys here sell theirs, and come back to the site a year or two later looking to buy another and tell us all how much they regret getting rid of their old K5 in the first place.

The AC working is a big plus, that is something that can be a deal maker or breaker. I'd fix the shock mount (& shocks if not doing so will cause it to break again). If the headliner is really bad just remove it. Other than that I'd sell it as is. Going by local prices, I'd say it's worth $2000-3000, depending on how the body looks, hard to say w/o pics. Good luck man.
