I don't have the coin for another membership yet but will be getting it soon. So to be clear im not selling it as of yet just testing the waters. I was wondering what would be a realistic trade for a soft top was thinking of putting it on the for sale section.

I am looking for a a 14BFF and a Dana 60SRW pair would this be realistic?

That is all I can really think of at the moment but check in the for sale section in the next couple of weeks:wink1:

Really hate to get rid of it I only used the thing 3 times before I took the Blazer apart, but sometimes you need to make sacrafices and get what you really need.

Thanks

You didn't tell us who makes the soft top, which makes a HUGE difference.

I've sold two used Bestop soft tops (76-91 K5's) for $400-500. Seems people are more desperate for them now that nobody makes them, now they may be worth more.

A SRW D60/14 bolt combo is probably worth $1000-1500 around here, depending on gearing, condition and open/gov-lok carrier in the rear.

Full convertible stuff is tougher to find and worth more, as I said it depends on who made the top and what condition its in.

i sold one on her a few years back for around 600 IIRC

now that they are not being made, I could see it being of the same value or more. Trades are always neat because two people can get what they want, while trading off what they dont need.

i think the trade for a 60 would be fair to the right person if they did not need it, seems they are hard to sell for top dollar now anyways

WHAT!! They don't make soft tops anymore for our Blazers!! I think it is a Besttop tinted windows and its the Fast Trac one. The top is damn near brand new and only used like 3 times. Ill have to see in a few weeks what im going to do then.

Kinda sucks.:(

oh this sucks I wish I had the axles for you. Not sure if I would trade them straight across for the top but if I had them I would be talking to you about it for sure.

I think you will probably get more on ebay just make sure you put down that no one makes soft tops anymore for them.

this is kind of a loaded statement cause I don't have the money but if I did I would have no problem paying upwards of 500 for one in good shape.

So sucks they aren't making them anymore

I have an idea.. maybe I can be a vendor and make all the bracketry and my wife can sew up the canvas\windows. I'll have to talk with her about this.

Its been tried a couple times now, if you can put a good product together there will be buyers.

Most people don't make it past the design stage.

Really, you'll have to make a GREAT product for $1000-1500 (honestly, pretty tough without a lot of time and money investment) or a good one in the $500-1000 range.

There have been several who have tried to make soft tops for K-series trucks, generally profitability has been an issue.

Im slowly finding that out now as I look at fabric's zippers and windows. I didn't even get into the bracketry material pricing yet, maybe its a lost cause. I wouldn't want to make junk that's for sure.

You are probably right but im still gonna poke at the idea and look at the design of my current soft top and see what my wife thinks. You never know those companies started small at one time too. Ive always wanted to utilize my business license since I havent done anything yet maybe its my time to shine. If it ended up working out not only will the soft top problem be solved but a lot of fellow K5'ers would be happy, and in turn that would make me happy.

i'd buy 1 depending on price, heck i'll buy yours! :) seriously tho...as the quote goes, "if you will build it, they will come!" a full vert soft top...when will you have the production line going? i know 2-3 people who would prolly buy 1...heck i may would buy 2 incase they turn into hens teeth again!

yea, that and a little sarcasim...but i've seen and heard enuff that i believe there's a market there, for the soft top & the 1/2 cabs...i can't believe some1 doesn't make them!

Yea I figured someone would make them. Especially since there is no competition. The only thing to put you out of business would be mismanagament. Well maybe a few other things

Before you get too excited, remember that 3 different companies that mass produce soft tops as their primary business have now failed. I'd suggest figuring out what happened to them before spending time on it. There's likely a good reason for it.

Remember, K5's are not being made anymore.

My guess is they felt it wasn't worth their time. But for someone side business it could work. Just my guess though

Exactly, Thats what it would be like. I could make a couple of tops post them sell them and repeat. That way it would be in my leisure time and I wouldn't have pre-ordered ones to make. Thank you all for the comments they make sense and are very valuable to me. Im actually picking up my top from my mom's house right now and taking it to my garage. Hopefully after examining my top I can get all the material and bracketry priced up and see if it is deffinatly doable for a decent price to you guys.

We shall see.

Even know K5's aren't being made anymore a universal type could be made, like a bikini top or something for a roll bar.

yes, keep us posted on your proposed prices...if it seems to be to expensive for you to start on them...keep in mind, "business partner(s)"!

I'd like to do something to contribute to the off road community especially this Forum, it has helped me out big time through out the years and has many resources available. The people I have met in person and talked to online are great. It seems that my passion lies with these trucks. Still not happy about the soft tops not being made anymore though, Now I don't want to trade it.:haha: I am going to be kind of busy this weekend but will try and get my wife to look at the material may need a different sewing machine. To me it doesnt look like it would be a problem to make but that is up for my wife to decide. Ill keep everyone posted.
