whats special about 89-91 K5's?

whats special about 89-91 K5\'s?

what are the changes from 88 to 89? do the 89-91's have a different FI setup? and are they desirable? how are codes retrieved for the 88-91's?

any other body, suspension, etc differences appreciated too. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

the 10 bolts in the newer ones are 30 spline I believe. I guess its stronger, but its still a weak 10 bolt. The front suspension's shackles are longer to prevent spring to frame contact. They have the nice looking grille setups. No fuel injection change. As for reading codes, just stick a paper clip in the diagnostic ports and read the codes by the flashing of the Check Engine Light.

89-91's have the cool front clips(4 small headlamps side by side) and they have the NP241 with electric speedo, also I believe power mirrors started in '89, could've been '90 though. That's as much as I know. /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

My '91 has a better armrest design for the rear seats and better designed sunvisors up front that don't hit the mirror everytime I use them.
It also has a better radio that is easier to replace with an aftermarket.
Oh, and a little light in the engine compartment on a reel.

Basically I bought it for the front clip and all the little details were gravy! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The 89 had the mechanical pickup speedometer.The 90 & 91 had the electronic pickup for the speedometer.

89 and up have the upgraded stronger 700r4 trans.

90 & 91 got rear shoulder belts.

you get the better looking grill, mech speedo, also they have serpentine belts so spare parts there is down to one item to carry, 700/241 (poor mans doubler) actally works really good /forums/images/graemlins/woot.gif

The throttle body is a little bit bigger on the later TBI models

what? never heard of this. 350,305,4.3 V6s all use the same throttle body. 1 7/8" bored unit. 454s use 2" bored units, and besides TPS and vaccum ports I've never seen a difference.

I dont have rear shoulder belts or armrests in the rear. I did get power mirrors though. like everyone else said you get

30 spline 10 bolts instead of 28 spline

My 91 has armrests in the rear but I think they are kind of cheesy. They're basically just big pads velcro'd on the wheel well hump.

These years also offered rear ABS brakes.

I don't think those are standard, my 3rd row seat has the arm rests built right on it, so was a friend of mines '91 2wd Burb.

87 to 91 had the better th700r4.
89 to 91 had the small 4 haed light front girll assembly.
89 had a 241 with mechanical speedo.
90 and 91 had an electric speedo.
89 to 91 had 30 spline axles.
90 and 91 had rear shoulder belts, but not on all.
91 power mirrors was and option.
87 to 91 tbi injection, yes there were minor differences such as the TPS sensor but they flowed the same.
88 to 91 had serpentene belts. 88 was apperantly the changover year. I have seen some with and some without but most were without.
89 to 91 had the nice thick grip 4 spoke steering wheel.
89 to 91 had the big radio and is easy to change.
