whats the best way to get rid of the shift fork

like it says---whats the best way to get rid of the shift rod (the one you dont use anymore and could fall out) when doing the doubler. mine is the type thad is made so it dosn't come out.

Unscrew/snapring the shifter assembly and push it in a little, and it will come right out.
