hello peoples. In my research on ebay I have found that some headers are listed as 2wd only while some are 2wd and 4wd. Whats the deal? also some people list that their part as like 70 something to 86 and 88 to 90 something. leaving out 87 altogether which is the year of my truck!! and others up to 87. but what is clear is something changed in 88 so that things will not interchange. (am I makeing any sense) anyway does anyone know what changed or happened or what?? any info or opinons great.

73-87 for axles, transmissions,engines etc.
73-80 for interior and things like that
81-87 interior junk and what not (for pick ups) and 81-91 for blazers jimmy and suburbans

just about anything mechanical other than fuel stuff for the TBI unit is the same. others will chime in with more info.

In '88, the new CK trucks came out (leaving K5 and Suburban on the old style til '91). That is probably what your seeing in the catalogs for headers.
You should be able to use anything '73-87.
What vehicle and motor are we talking here?

A 2wd header will usually run into interference problems at the collector and front spring shackles in my experience.

but they look the same.

In many cases they will look the same. Until you put them side by side. The angles that the tubes are bent at may be slightly different, or the end of the primaries and the collectors could be shorter. It varies by manufacturer.

the difference is usually noticable around the collector tubes....angles, and length.(from main pipes to collector). But as 73K5 said.. "What vehicle and motor are we talking here?"

just because they look the same doesn't mean they are. turds and baby ruth bars look alike. king snakes and coral snakes look alike too. you'll need to weld in a bung for your O2 sensor in your headers. on my 89 k5, i had to ding one side of the left collector to clear the oil filter, and the other to clear the spring shackle. so there's a little difference between 2 and 4 wd headers.
