What's the difference between '69-'71 vs '72 doors?

If I wanted to buy doors from a salvage yard, how would I know if they fit '69-71 or a '72? I do I identify the difference?:dunno:

AFAIK 69-72 are all the same. I'm sure someone with more knowledge on those specific years will chime in and let you know if i'm wrong.

All of the aftermarket parts houses list the '72 doors under a different part number, but I'm not sure why.

The '72s (I've seen some 71s with them as well)have an additional screw just below the window on the inside to help hold the vent window and keep it from rattling and keep the door from cracking around the vent window. The 72s also had different door panels that used plastic clips and used different holes as a result.

It was common practice for people to add a screw in that some location on the earlier doors but most of those had a plastic piece that matched the profile of the door. So your current doors may have something similar.

All the doors will interchange, the door panel holes can be tricky when trying to put 71 older panels on 72 doors, I've always just used 72 door panels. 72 door panels on pre 71 doors requires the correct holes to be drilled and is pretty simple.

The other difference is the regulator stickout and the escutcheons (sp?) look at a '72 door panel, and you'll see that the area around the window crank sticks out further than the flat ('69 - '71) style door panels.

As mentioned, the screw below the wing window is the other giveaway for a '72 door.

Thanks Greg, :bow:forgot to mention the longer stick out of the bellcrank and window regulator to match the thicker molded 72 door panels.

Thanks for the info guys! I think I should be able to determine the correct doors now, if I can find some good used ones.

Does anyone know if pickup truck door will work if I cut the window frames?

Thanks! I'm going to look at some doors this weekend. Hopefully I can find some good ones that aren't rusted out.
