i have an 82 3/4 ton diesel doner truck. it supost to have a 4 speed with over drive in it. i'm trying to figure out wether or not its the same as my sm465 but with an overdrive for fourth gear. all i have found on the web so far is that the 4 speed with overdrive was diesel only.

I thought only the th700R4 4 spd OD auto was available behind the 6.2? /forums/images/graemlins/screwy.gif

The 82 K10 I nearly bought at the boneyard had a 4 speed in it,I thought it was an SM465,but it looked different--it did have "OD" on the shifter! /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gifand I thought it looked just like the Mopar 4 speed they used with the slant 6 in telephone company vans in the 80's!--too bad they crushed it before I got there with the cash /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif(I was PISSED!)--even more now that I know it wasnt just the run of the mill SM465 4 speed. If I had my way that deisels truck chassis and drivetrain would have been under my 74 cab and bed,but its history now--darn scrap happy boneyards! /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/doah.gif /forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

I think if it is a 465, there is no OD, the 4th gear is 1:1

Could be wrong, still on first cup of coffee.

GM did offer an overdrive 4 speed manual in the early 80's, and not just for the diesel pick-ups. A friend of mine had an 83 or 84 305 powered pick-up with one of those tranny's in it.

I've heard they weren't the most durable manual out there, and they are fairly rare. No granny either IIRC.

Nope, no granny gear in those. Only seen one in my life, and it eventually blew up behind a swapped in 250ci I-6.

I saw an '82-ish truck in the wrecking yard that had a 4 speed that obviously wasn't the 465. The tranny and t-case shifter "bezel" was all one piece, and th shifter came out WAY further back on the transmission tunnel than the 465, likely because the light duty 4 speed shifted on the side, not the top like the 465. (thus external shift rods that place the shifter near the back of the transmission)

it looks alot like my sm465. has a granny top loader. it just drives on the freeway like it has an over drive. granny low then 1st 2nd 3rd 4th. i have both my blazer and this truck stiped down to their frames beside eachother right now. the trannys look really simmilar but have some diffrances.

So it's a 5 speed?

My Jimmy when I got it came with the 465/208 stock and had 33's on it. It had 2.73's so I had to use granny to get it moving...and 4th ended up being a lot like overdrive. My cruise rpm was 1800 rpm.

oopps sorry. just granny through 3rd. at first glance to me it looks like my 465, but looing at it more closly it just looks diffrent. seems to be the same in low gears as my blazer. maybe the 4.10s in the 3/4 tons diffs is enough to make it feel like it has an over drive. cruzes at about 70 on freeway at like 1800-2000, no tach so give or take a few. where my blazer cruzes at 55 at around 2500 on its tach. blazer is running 4.56 gears in te diffs. the 3/4 ton is on bald 33s and my little k5 has 36s. just trying to besure befor i sell the wrong tanny.
