What's the redline of 87 350 motor?

Well, there's no rev limiter but I would say 5000.

I had my stock '77 350 up to 6K a few times (I was stupid and 16) but there's no power up there anyway.

I don't think there is a redline, I don't think the stock TBI motor can spin fast enough to hurt itself, lol.

Seriously though, there's really no need to go past 5000 unless you just want to make noise.

mine saw 5k many times but I am pretty sure its on the down hill after 4500. The red line would be 500 rpms before the rods come out the sides of the block.

I would assume 5k. My 94 Blazer would shift at 4500ish under full throttle, gets scary above there.

haha I like that :D

I installed a tach in one of the unused intrument panels just wanted to know where to mark redline. Also when I tow my boat uphill I have to stay in second in order to do 55mph. I just wanted to make sure I dont do the rod out the side of the block thing.

Thanks guys 5k it is

scary is not 5k its 8500.
I have a car that will do this. Going through a tunnel floored at 8500 rpms is amazing sounds like an Indy car :D:D:D

I wouldn't spin it past 5k , no point in doing so with a motor built for stoplight to stoplight with some weight in the rig heading from jobsite to jobsite .

If you want to spin it past 5k , swap the heads , cam , springs , rockers , pushrods , throttle body , injectors , exhaust manifolds , fuel pump , and the stock ignition . Then gear it for the tires . At least then you would be making some power :wink1:

when things under the hood start turning red, ya need to slow down :D

not a 350, but awhile back while i was towing a small car on a U-Haul trailer, a Harley 883 Sportster in the bed of the pick, 3 adults and a bunch of hand toold and supplies for construction type work, coming from San Diego to Phoenix, that little 4.3ltr V-6 didn't seem to pull real good until it hit about 4000-4500.

Of course this is a Vortec with i believe a roller drivetrain, but it really amazed me that with that much weight behind me, 45 was the slowest it got climbing hills out of Cali. and STILL averaged around 12-14 mpg.

That's about what my Burb does, EMPTY.

anyhoo, yeah, i usually don't rev the 350 up past that 4500rpm range, i have been told that the stock HEI starts dropping "power" up past that point anyways, and with mine, things start smokin for some reason :doah:

about 5200rpms for me. Found it doing my own personal research... Its hit 6K a few times by accident. Like dumping the clutch on wet pavement offers little resistance to turn the tires and thus throttle regulation is needed... :doah:
