I've got a '79 Jimmy with D60, 14b, 350, th350, and 37s. The body is pretty much stock. You guys think the Warn XD9000 would cut it? This truck isn't going to be scaling cliffs or playing tarzan on the line, but it would be nice to have the option of using a winch for occassional use and pulling others out. Isn't there a rule of thumb for rated weight, like vehicle weight plus 30% or something? Thanks.

Thanks Jethro. That's a good thread. So the general rule is 1.5x truck weight?

theres a few... i know i've heard 2x the weight is the general rule but it depends on what your gonna use it for.

Like said in the other thread, the bigger winches(12k, 16.5k) are only needed for HEAVY rigs or gnarly mud.

1.5 times your rigs actual weight... unless its a 8274, then don't worry about it.

my basic rule is ...

go ahead and get whatever winch you want.. however when you get stuck and cannot get the truck out... remember you should have gotten the bigger one... that is the way it always works...

if you get a big one... then should be fine.. Id say go 12k or up
