in my shop, i found a part today that i had put up for safe keeping, but now i'm not sure what its for. it looks to be inside trim, its wide enough to reach across a cab & has a 1/2 circle cast in the middle. its so long its hard to get a pic. it has ''pt# 470922 lewis systems cav #1'' cast into the back. i tried to google the #'s w/no results. anybody know what it could be? its very possibly out of an 80 k5??:dunno: i will try to post a pic later as i'm headed out to the man space now:waytogo:

Seems like there's a piece of carpet hold down trim right under the front of the back seat that has a half moon in it to clear the very rear end of the trans tunnel.

its aluminum, but its coated red/marroon almost..doesnt look like paint..i took a quick pic here is the middle hump'd up part..its layin on my 4wheeler ramp in this pic

it goes on the vertical step behind the front seats to hold the flooring down.

thanks guys..i guess this is the 1st one i've ever seen..i've had 3 2nd gen k5's but they either have a front rubber mat only or nothing..7-8yrs ago, when i stripped out the interior of my 80k5 i keep everything in good condition & together as i hoped to 1 day ''restore'' it back to street duty, but this long piece was in the attic by itself & i honestly don't remember taking it off or putting it up..thanks again guys

Being aluminum is definately interesting as every one i've seen is plastic. These were only used on 1978 and later where the rear floor section behind the drivers seats was flat for a ways back before kicking up to the cargo height.

Mine is aluminum. 84 M1009. It's up for sale. Interested?

10 years later, I just referenced this thread to figure out the same thing...and just for reference, my truck is a 90 k5 former forest service truck...and it's aluminum. Maybe the government trucks got the metal the rest plastic?

That is fascinating. My 78 is plastic.

The piece that holds the carpet down at the end of the cargo area, by the tailgate, that is aluminum, also, but it isn't coated, just bare metal. The little cups that the seat latches to, those are bare metal, also. Maybe it had something to do with if the truck had carpet or vinyl flooring?

I think all of the carpet hold downs near the tailgate are metal
