Pics aren't devoloped yet so bear with me.
Behind the drivers seat there is a spring about 24" long that has a clasp on one end. It is attached to the front of the tub.
It is a factory item, anyone know what this is for?

That's the "Lateral Control Stabilizer".....

"First used in the early Camaros, it's a device that vastly enhances the cornering power of these GM vehicles. It's prevents vehicle flex and keeps the tires in perfect contact with the road surface."

..... or it just holds the factory jack and hardware.

I'm pretty sure that if you scour the pages of the Factory Assembly Manual, you can find the illustration that shows how the spring is used to secure the jack and crank. I may re-use that part and create the world's longest carb return spring on my Q-Jet!

The jack goes with the spare tire mount, typically behind the rear seat. The long spring behind the driver seat is for the jack handle and tire iron. The jack lies down and the spring goes over it.
