really i don't know, they are a peice of crap that doesn't work very well. i have never paid them enough attention to figure it out. they are also called gov-bombs.

Its a locker from the factory. When wheel speed differs by a set amount the wieghts get pulled out and lock up the spider gears. If its a 10 bolt gov lock, people call em gov bombs and they usually are the weak link in the system.
