Hey kids..... I've got a chance to buy a 1977 K20 with Detroit locker in the rear and posi in the front, with 4.10 gears. Im thinking of buying this truck, and swaping out the running gear with my Blaze. I know it has a Dana 44 in the front, but not sure on whats in the rear. Who know's what it would be..??? And what do'yall think of this combo?

P.S. who wants to buy a soon to be 1977 K10

But Tori... if you keep it you can have a pimped out ride like or this....

Tori, that '77 is the start of the "second design" truck on the drivetrain, especially the front axle.

Also, '77 is the first year of the 10 bolt front axle, so it could have this axle, too, instead of the D44. Beware of this.

The rear will definitely be the 14FF, and it should have the 13" drum brakes, but it could have the 11" drums, too.

This combo will be strong enough for your Blazer, and many others, too.

If the price is right, buy it. Do the 1/2 ton swap and resell it for the same or more than what you paid for it.

That's exactly how I got the axles that are under my '75, except they came from a '74 K-25 GMC. Like Wes said, the 10-bolt front axles started showing up mid-year '77. But they're not enough different from a Dana 44 that I'd worry about it. Swap the axles and sell the truck.

It's a great day to be alive...

How many bolts does it have on the rear differential? That will tell you what it is 12=12bolt 14 = etc....

One more thing to consider is your rims. How many lugs do you have vs the ones you are looking to swap in. Are you willing to pay for new rims also?

If so, go for it and do the swap.

Yep...... already had plans to get new wheels.... switching from 10's to 8" wide wheels, and maybe going with the new Ultra's that Kpanza was pushing awhile ago...
