I was dropping some stuff off at a bone yard today and in the back corner of the back lot I see a cammo painted mid 70s chevy. I walk over to take a gander and I see a surprisingly strait cucv. Its still has its axles, wait :eek1::eek1:its caged with rock sliders under the cab, suspension seats... I pop the hood it has a set of BBC headers layin over the engine crossmember. MSD 6al ignition box screwed to the firewall. Start looking at the front dana 60, there is an air line running from the frame to the front pumpkin. then i look at the windshield and noticed the CASH FOR CLUNKERS wrote in red:eek1::mad::confused: why would someone junk a smog free 77 chevy strait as can be, caged, and in running, registered condition? Ive talked the guy into parting with the dana 60, and matching 14 bolt for 500 bucks. There is an ARB sticker on the underside of the hood, so im hoping the ARB air locker is still there... I asked about the cab, but he said legally he cant sell it due to the Cash for clunkers having the vin registered as a dissembled vehicle...

That's disgusting, infuriating, and all around plain wrong. WTH is someone who obviously put time and money into a wheeling rig doing trading it in on cash for clunkers? How stupid can people get?

On the other hand, the axle combo with ARB locker possibly--I officially hate you :D:bow:

A 1977 would not have qualified for C4C, the oldest vehicle that could be clunkered was 84's IIRC. So if it's a 77 I can't understand how it could be a C4C car.

BS x2

smog exempt is 75 and earlier, and C4C only covers 1986 and newer vehicles.

C4C also HAD to have an engine, which would have been destroyed at the dealer. "Tow ins" did not apply.

yeah i was off on the year, and it did have an engine according to the junk yard dude... I guess they are required to destroy the engine... Supposedly they drain the oil, and pour something like liquid glass in the motor and run it until it stops... the sodium glass stuff really does some damage I guess. Im going to try to get some pics tomorrow
