What's with HUMMER wheels??

well im on a roll with posting all of a sudden, so i figure i would keep the streak rolling.. i just started looking around for wheels, and found there are a bunch of H2 wheels for sale, is there any particular reason for this? are they 'better' in some way or do people just like the way they look? thanks..
 
There's just a lot of them for sale because so many people that buy an H2 immediately upgrade to bling. If you don't get a good deal on them I would stay away though, 17" tires are pretty spendy still.
 
They're lightweight (aluminum) and 8 on 6.5. People get 'em cheap because a lot of them are dealership or tire shop take offs.
 
theya re cheap 17" rims, people like that. They aren't a bad looking rim. They are aluminum rims cheap. They are 8 on 6.5. And they are plentiful because people often "upgrade" to bling bling rims on H2s.

I need to stop at the dealership back home this weekend. There is an H2 with the rims painted black and has 35" MT/Rs on it, looks REALLy nice.
 
i buy them for 250.00 for 4 used tires and rims. tires at %50 + tread life and rims are normaly non chrome. i can get brand new for 550.00, again for 4 tires and rims. tires are 315/70/17. comes out to about a 35-12.5-17. rims are 8 on 6.5 with a decent back space. i think 4.25 inches but cant remember for sure. they fit on anything that is 8 on 6.5 BUT 3rd gen dodges. they need to be machined out a bit. factory hummer tires are BFG all terains with a load range of 3195 lbs at 50 psi cold and are 8 ply D rated tires.

I was under the impression they had quite a bit of backspacing...closer to 6", iirc. Perhaps I am confused :confused:
 
those are the h1 wheels which have 7.25" of backspacing

what exactly is a "third gen Dodge" if we're going by body styles, then a third gen Dodge was built in the '40s, and not many of those guys care about anything stock anyways.

im not a dodge guy, im a cummins guy so a third gen dodge to ME is anything 2003 or newer. the newest body style. sorry for any confusion.

they look pretty close to the stock setup to me, on my ride anyways, tucked in the wheel wells just like the stockers were... :thinking:

Think he meant "Third Gen Ram" , it was the Power Wagon before that.

How difficult is it to get the wheels machined out for them to fit a Dodge? I was in the market to put some on my CTD........
 
not hard, just look in the paper for a machine shop. the exact measurements to make it hub centric vice lug centric or on the turbodiesel register. i dont know them off the top of my head. i run the tires on my stock height 2wd ram, so i cant run the rims as well or my front fenders would ned replaced.

they stick out a little bit further. i THINK factory BS on the Ram rims are 5 inches and the H2 rims are just a bit less so they stick out a bit along with being a bit wider.

We can send any wheel out for around $45 each to bore the centers (I think the hummer to dodge set up is cheaper). I have the numbers at work on the bore difference, I can write them down for you.
 
Cummins turbo diesel in the RAm
90-93 1st gen. 12 valve
94-02 2nd gen. (94-98.5 12 valve, 98.5-02 24 valve)
03-up 3rd. gen. 24 valve

That cleared up, everyone needs some bling for the tow rig sometimes. :D
 
one more question, what's 8 and 6.25.. err whatever it is... mean exactly?? 8 lug at 6.25 inches or something.. hell i dunno, i was gonna wing it, didnt work :confused:

I have a friend I just sold my H2 rims to. He has a "3rd Gen Ram"(that is what the owners call them in my experience), and all he did was grind out the rim a slight bit and said they fit right on. Haven't seen the work he did yet(don't know his workmanship to guess) but it sounded like it was a really quick and easy process for him.
