What's with HUMMER wheels??

They are 8 on 6.5.

I see this often, and am always confused.

Mine are off of a 2003 - they are 17.0 x 8.5 8 lug. They have the optional LT315/70R17 BFG's (you could get LT285/70R17 standard). I'm not sure what the BS is, but they tuck in nicely.

That would be the bolt pattern, 8 lugs on a 6.5" circle. 1/2 ton GM 4x4 is 6 on 5.5, or 6 lugs on a 5.5" circle. 1/2 ton Ford & old Jeep CJs are 5 on 5.5, 5 lugs on a 5.5" circle. Newer Jeeps like the Wranglers , XJs, MJs, & ZJs are 5 on 4.5, 5 lugs on a 4.5" circle. SuperDutys are 8 on 170mm, 8 lugs on a 170mm circle. New Grand Cherokees are 5 on 4.6", 5 lugs-4.6" circle.

Take a look at my webshots for a pic with the Hummer tires and rims installed on my 2003 dodge. I was able to get the tires Brand new, and rims for 400.00 bucks. Machining was 10 bucks per rim but the tire had to be removed from the rim. All told, I have 500 bucks into a set of 4 new tires and rims mounted and balanced. I was quoted $2000.00 just for tires on my existing rims from a local tire shop so I thought the Hummer option was a good way to go.

I have a leveling kit on my truck and there is NO rub at all. I've heard that they will also fit without the kit but some people report they will rub at full lock .

Here is a writeup I used to pass the specs onto the machine shop I used. inner rim.

H2 Wheel Mod and Install

In order to install GM H2 wheels on a Dodge 3rd Gen truck, the center hole must be opened up accurately to 121.23 mm or 4.774" diameter.

Fortunately the lug bolt pattern fits the 8-lug Dodges perfectly and the OEM lugnuts fit.

The stock Dodge rims and the GM H2 rims are "hubcentric" meaning the rims are held on center on the spindle/hub by the center hole, not the lug nuts. There is only .007 diameter or .0035" per side clearance between the wheel and the spindle protrusion.

About 1/8" per side or 1/4" diameter needs to me machined out, accurately. It can be done, tires off on a lathe, or as I have done, on a milling machine buy either manually boring or using an end mill and cutting a circle with a programmable milling machine (CNC).

I set the wheel/tires up by simply clamping directly on the tire. There is no need to be concerned about flatness as the thickness being machined is only about .8 thick. Not enough
to effect perpendicularity.

The hole must be indicated (center located) to within a few thousanths.
I wrote a short program with cutter compensation to mill the circle. That way we could sneak in to the final dia.

I had mine bored out at a local machine shop. Although, you can order a 4 3/4 holesaw from mcmaster.com. The part number is 41005A62.

I would check around to a few local machine shops and see what they can do for you. It took the gentleman less than an hour to do all 4 wheels.

Also, There is TON of info on this website.
http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/

Do a search in the forums on H2 or hummer wheels and you will get all the info you need.

One additional piece of information. You will need to remove about 3/4" from the lip of the dodge center caps to get them to fit. This process is also easily found in the forums. Let me know if you have more ??'s I can take more time to dig stuff up for you at a later time.

Great, nowI'm gonna have to buy some just because everyone else does. I actually think that would be a good set of wheels/tires for driving around town. Full exo, 7" lift and some 35s on H2 wheels lol.

something ever1 is missing

the h2's look cool and all but the hub sticking out past the rim on your 14 bolt ff will not allow the original covers fit back on.... you would have to cut hole in the original h2 covers to clear front locking hubs also..unless you have a 9.5" 14 bolt sf (3/4ton rear end)wolud they look like they do on hummer but you would still have to do something up front for the locking hubs sticking out because they will hit the cover before it seats on rim or just leave them off like the suburban pic in this thread

cbbr's Sub has a 14BSF, which is why the hubs don't protrude.

IMO, it looks cool in a gearhead type way with lockouts and hubs sticking through with no covers.

In that same breath, its a good thing (IMO) because the stock H2 center caps are queerer than a 3 dollar bill.

you can use some stock newer 1 ton center caps, i have seen a few runnin around, doesn't look too bad.

how new of a model truck hubcap are we talking about?

not sure exactly what year they are off of, but i have seen a few Chevy's with H2 wheels and these caps on them,,have to switch to that dual threaded lug style, and use the little black plastic lug covers with then to hold the cap on...

and obviously have to cut out the center section to gain access to the hub on the front,,,

i was thinkin about gettong a set of four of the deep caps, this pic shows different ones though.

I tried the 88-98 Chevy caps on my H2s, but they didn't fit inside the recess for the lug nuts. I ended up using Furd Superduty caps. They already have the center open for the front hub to stick through. You can get them in chrome or black ABS (easy to paint). Also they are available in open or closed center but the closed center caps have a ghey Furd logo. Here's a pic.

You are righ about that. We put the rear covers on and they looked bad. Very bad. I actually like the way they look without the covers and they will look better with a 14bff. ;)
