What\'s wrong with my Transfer Case??? Grinding in 4-Lo.............

Well first off I have an 81' 350/350/NP-208.

Went wheeling today and when I shifted into 4-Lo from 4HI I got major grinding when I started to drive. I put it in reverse and even worse so I through it in nuetral and put it back in HI and drove out of there. When I got to the bottom I wanted to watch the linkage when it shifts but it just started grinding when it tried to shift in low. Left it alone and drove home /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I was hoping my linkage wasn't adjusted and slipped, but I don't think so.

Before everything worked fine and I haven't changed anyhting since last time wheeling in LO

I have always had problems with it falling out of gear, so I use a bungee cord to hold it where I want.

Any suggestions???? /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif

Thanks
Jesse

My first guess would be that you ruined the shift forks by using the bungee cord. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif They aren't designed to be held against the moving parts inside the case. /forums/images/graemlins/eek.gif

What would cause a t-case to jump out of low range? Mine does this also sometimes. Sorry for the hijack.
