I've been laying down what I think are decent welds for a bit now, but suddenly I can't get any penetration.

as you can see, I am getting no penetration and the weld is coming out all pitted. what am I screwing up?

also, I just ran out of wire. related? :dunno:

Looks like out of gas. Sometimes I think those magnets cause some interference.
hmmm, yeah I am using gas. I could hear the gas coming out, but I didn't check the pressure. I'll look at that in the morning.

Not sure how about trying a longer bead. Doesn't look like enough heat and no gas.

If you are welding with gas did you change the polarity of the welder to weld with gas. That may be your problem.

No gas which may be from a bad/dirty nozzle also. Take the nozzle off and clean it out........

I have always used gas with this welder, so polarity isn't the issue. I did have a longer bead on there at first, but I was able to just knock it off with a hammer. I was attempting it again with the voltage turned all the way up when I ran out of wire, so I have just the short bead.

possible. I'll try cleaning the nozzle and see if that helps.

Could be something like a draft/breeze blowing it away. Or like was mentioned misadjusted, nossel with lotsa crap in it or your tip could have some spooge in it.

When you changed the wire you just take off the tip and stuff new wire through? Take anything apart were you might have hosed the orings?

Something is way more wrong than a nozzle or lack of gas. With the voltage all the way up you should be getting a little penetration sounds like your not getting any at all. That is why I though polarity.

It's definitely no gas...I don't care what you set the machine to, no gas gets you bubbles and a crap weld.

ASH what welder are you using? Is it a Lincoln. Sometimes just because I'm lazy I pull my welder around by the hose. I have on several occasions had to push it back into the welder. There are 2 holes that line up and o-rings that keep it in place that when tugged mis-align and no gas:dunno:

and we have a winner!!

Mine is an Eastwood 135, but yeah, that was the problem. Once I got the hose seated back in tight everything worked like it should. :thumb:

Thanks for all the help figuring this out guys.

fyi i just took our 110 welder at work and welded 4 nuts to the bottom feet and drilled 4 holes in the cart and bolted it down . now you grab the handle and yank it all over the shop with easyy and safely to the machine .

watch out for coiling up the gun hose too tight when ya store the machine too, it's bad for the liner..

yeah, I think someone mentioned that when I first got the welder so I have been extra careful about that. I don't really coil it up at all. I have a couple of hooks welded to my cart that I just loop it over loosely. :waytogo:

I built my cart for this welder so it is actually sitting in really tight so I can do the same thing. I don't usually pull on the hose, but I was doing some welding in the back of the blazer so I must have pulled on it trying to get it over the bedside and not noticed. :doah:

yeah, I had a bud stop by one day, "oh, I'll help ya clean up".. turned around and cringed when I saw he had wrapped it tight around the gas bottle... :doah: :haha:

lol, yeah "help" isn't always as helpful as they think it is.:laugh:

Been there done that :D

Or when you are welding with a couple people around and they don't even pay attention to where the leads are at and step on em
