I'm Looking At A '94 Sub 6.5 With An Operating Veggie Set-Up. It's in the west, and has 235k, but surges and stalls, so prolly an IP issue. The owner of 3 years says the IP has a 2005 sticker on it, but a friend told me to stay away from the 1st Gen electronic 6.5's

Thoughts? I'd be driving it back east once I install a new pump, or whatever... Owner is very cooperative.

Here's the blurb from his ad...

>>>>>> Noted Issues: This truck needs a tune up. I've discount priced it to compensate for the cost of the tune up. It runs and drives but cold starts are a little long with smoke. I recently had it taken into a local diesel shop here in town as the check engine light comes on and it is experiening some intermittent accerlation power loss. It has been driving this way for a while though and can get around. It appears to be sporatic so it could be related to injectors and/or the injection pump. It has been known to stall from time to time as well so it's best to have a shop do the work.<<<<<<<<<<

The PMD's were mounted to the side of the injector pump and heat from the motor kills the electronics.

You simply need to get the electronics as far away from the engine as possible to keep them alive. With the mileage on that truck, it could be any number of problems though.

Could be a combination of a couple of problems. The PMD is the first and most common (stalling, hard starting). The acceleration issues can be related but could also be the wastegate solenoid starting to mess up.

The waste veggie set-up could also be a huge contributor to the problems...that stuff wreaks havoc on the fuel system and engine. Stuff cokes up, etc.

Personally unless it was near free I'd prolly pass considering the distance involved and the "wild card" factor of the waste veggie oil set-up.

It's really too bad the '94 and up are drive by wire, or you could just swap a mechanical IP and be done with the computerized bullsh!t on that.

i notice that your looking at a 6.5 w/ electronic injection over on CK5.

i just joined up there and remember you showing me your profile there at one point.

since it won't let me post there just yet, account not active or something, i figured i'd tell you here instead.

The surging and stalling that that burban is suffering from is most likely a PMD issue. main symptoms of a failing PMD are random surging and stalling. If the PMD is pump mounted or mounted anywhere in the engine bay it'll eventually die from heat soak.

I'd grab that burban with the veggie system, throw a new PMD on it(best place is behind the front bumper and sealed from the elements with a non acid based silly-cone) and drive it.

But that's just me.

That link on the new haven craigslist from your last message was the exact blazer i bought today. It's not too bad, but it does need a little bit of work.

Old story... So that's it??? If the IP was replaced by GM 3 years ago, what's anybody's guess as to the prob's? Owner said he missed the recall, then said the IP was from 2005. Maybe I misunderstood... Anyways, should I buy a Hectorwithinjectors Pump? (eBay)

FWIW that eBay pump is the mechanical one, not the electronic version the '94 would have. Notice no PMD or related crap on the pump pictured...
