What's your favorite pre-2000 Chevy car that can be used as a DD?

98-03 BMW 540i. 282 hp V8, 6 speed manual trans.

Not much decent GM stuff between '75 and '08 fitting your wants IMO.
BMW?

If your going that route get a E39 M5. 400hp.
If you don't know what that is, do some research.

Dad had a 79 buick lesabre 4 door. 231 v6 gave up one day. I had a 383 that I built for a drag car. Sold the car. Mom and dad left for the weekend. Brothers and i threw the SBC in it with a built th350. Buick was in the driveway when mom and dad came home. He asked why it was there and we told him we fixed the engine.

He fired it up Monday morning, walked in and asked what was in it. Told him an old engine we had lying around. He smoked the tires up the hill leaving the house. Ultimate sleeper. Spanked mustang's, cameros and corvettes regularly.

Sure, same car really. Without shopping around I was guessing the M5 was probably twice as hard to find for double the money.

Frankly, if you're looking for rear drive manual trans fun, the E36 or E46 platform is quite good too...just no V8. A Eurospec E36 M3 is a solid 12 second car that turns and stops too. I almost pulled the trigger on one a few years back...and kinda kick myself for not buying it.

The last sentence sums up my feelings on this subject too..

Not many cars since '75 period are worth the effort to make a sleeper ..mostly FWD or downsized crap styling cars are all that existed after that..

Maybe we should expand this thread to the CK5 $4,000 dollar car? :pimp:

Dude that S10, it’s over priced in my opinion but it’s a find, clean, and a standard, I’d buy it.

If you could get him to 5k or less I’d definitely buy.

I'll echo the Cavalier statement. The 91-94 Z24s came with a 3.1l V6 and you could get the manual transmission. It's no Vette killer but they'll book. They also came with quite a bit of chassis bracing the standard Cavaliers didn't get and with some new shocks/struts they'll handle really good and are fun to drive.

If a manual isn't entirely required, look for one of the supercharged 3.8l Bonneville or Grand Prix sedans. I'd wager they'll hold their own against one of the Impala SS cars.

Denver is really delivering on low-mileage GM from '85-'95 this week:

Is a sc3800 a bolt in swap? Anyone know?

I think the 60 degree block of the 3.1 wouldn't be the same of 3.8, 90 degree block .

But damn that could be a sleeper with 300 horse......
