What's your MPG?????

Rig: 87 K5
Motor: mildly built 350
Tire size: 37' ssr's on steelies
Gear Ratio: 4.56
Miles Per Gallon: around 8, depends, i wheel on every tank of gas so just an educated guess, alot worse without shell and doors on highway

1990 K5
350 Stock w/118,000 miles
3.73 gears, 31" tires
on a 26 gallon fill-up (31 gallon tank)

average around town and rural back-roads..

240 miles and 8-10 quarts of oil (smoked like a mosquito fogger...)

currently .001 mpg (motor stripped, waiting to be swapped out
so figuring the inch or so it rolled in my driveway over the last 8 months
and how much gas has probably evaporated from the tank... :o :o )

So, from what ive seen here, it may be a good investment to buy a crate motor and a 4 speed tranny. Seems it would almost tripple my MPG and being that this is my daily driver, that means a lot of money. I work in a different city than I live, so I spend over $20 in gas EVERY DAY...... Anyone wanna give me an offer on a carberated 350 with RV cam and about 5000 miles on rebuild and no leaks, turbo 350 tranny and 208? PM me

Turbo 350 is a 3 speed tranny, and the worst of the big 4... If you want a rig that will do well on gas, put in a 5 speed manual or a 700R4... not a TH350

For mileage you cannot beat a 6.2 with a 700-R4 IMHO (or an NV4500). There are several guys here that get low to mid 20's while running 33's, 35's etc etc. My mileage would certainly be right around 20-21 with an overdrive. Even without an overdrive i spend about half as much on fuel as i used to.

Also, because it's mechanically injected there is no computer to mess with and it'll run at any angle without stalling or flooding out.

Just food for thought.

Rig: 87
Motor: 350 TBI
Tire size: 31-10.50's
Gear Ratio: 3.08
Miles Per Gallon: 9-10 in city, hadn't had the balls enought to drive it on a long trip.
tranny: 700R

A 6.2 would be great, if I had that kind of money. I don't though, so trading my tranny for a rebuilt one for $400 or so is about my limit for now. I may just put my engine and tranny up for auction on ebay and buy what I need after that. I figure I could prolly get $1500 or so for the rebuilt 350 and th350 and 208. What do you guys think?

Its all in my feathering the pedal technique , I try to keep in the sweet spot , leave each stop light the same and keep a constant pedal opening from start to last shift , all on the q-jets primaries , and I am real anal about maintaining my truck , like an air cleaner a month etc :D

18+ hwy (depends on speed, last I checked was about 75 mph), less around town, but probably 13+ havent checked city mpg after 3/4 ton conversion...

I think I could get over 20 mpg hwy, 15+ city if I swapped to Vortec heads, upped the cr, different cam, and mess with the ECM a little.
