just trying to find the right strap, kinda a spendy deal and dont wanna get something that is too weak, i already broke a 20,000 lb. also size would be great #"X#'

thanks
Steve

EDIT all those numbers in the poll are breaking strength

Tow straps arent good for pulling people out. They are not designed for a sudden jerk. You want to buy recovery straps. They are designed for yanking people out. They are designed to strech under load. This helps from breaking things on your rig and the strap.

hmm no wonder i broke a couple last weekend. good to know. i need some serious recovery stuff now.

ya waht he said, forgot that they are "recovery" straps

ive got one rated to 60,000 6" thick, probably way overkill, but ill never worry about breaking it when i yank someone. its also 30 feet long, which seems to be a good length.

I just went out and looked at mine. They are 27,000 pounds 3"x30'. On the package it says. it will stretch 20 to 30 percent when pulling and can stretch up to 60%. I like what it said about pulling some one out. "Give a slight jerk with the recovery vehicle, if that does no free the stuck vehicle, then HIT it with much more force.":haha: O and even better. At the very bottom it said in small letters "If you some how break this strap then a larger rated recovery strap is needed" Well no ####

after breaking several wimpy tow straps I decided it was time to spend some money on some serious recovery straps. I have two 20 footers that are about 30,000 lb. and I have a 10 footer that is 50,000 lb. I will be using that one as a winch (tree saver) strap

HIJACK

Where is a good place to find recovery straps and about what do they cost

Thanks
Last summer I was at the swap meet in Iola WI and there was a vendor making straps on site, any length, any strength you wanted. Sorry I forgot their name though :o

I dont know what mine is rated at but I have never broken it. It was special made. I have yanked on some serious stuck machinery too. If I ever break it i think it will have to be something that is huge.

Had 30', 40,000lb, 5" wide strap when I still wheeled. It was $70+ iirc. I could leave 15' of slack in it and get a full throttle run at yanking someone out and not worry about it. I would say look for a strap with specs atleast equal to that for piece of mind.

Thanks I think i know who your talkin about. my friend says he also goes to the Jefferson swap meet

3"x30' 30,000 lbs and paid $65

My go to recovery strap is a 100ft rope off a drilling rig. Paid $0, and has pulled more people out than I can remember. It is round and about the size of a fifty cent peice and when under pressure keeps stratching like a rubber band until "whoosh" and slings people out. I've seen it stratch down to the size of a nickle pulling out a 1 ton 4x4 dodge deisel buried to the body. It took about 6 times but we pulled it out.:D

Carried a 20k, 20' and a 30k, 30' straps for a long time...used the smaller strap most of the time but finally broke it pulling a buddy's very stuck 7,000 lb. truck, though it did have a knot it in (right where it broke) and was probably 15 years old.

Have yet to break the 30k strap from TSC and it's probably going on 10 years old but will get replaced soon because it's starting to fray around one of the loops.

A few years ago 4 Wheel Parts was selling some nice Procomp 30k straps for like $25 so I picked up two of them but have yet to use them. Keep one in the trailrig and one in the DD/towrig.

I would love to have a 30k strap that was only around 15' long.

Ive got a 40,000 rated strap (4" x 30') and a couple 20k straps (2" x 20'). A must have when wheeling. I drive a big k20, everyone always calls me up and asks for me to pull them out of some random hole they found their way into.

search ebay ;BEST BARGAINS is the company I got mine from.I broke a 30,000lb strap pulling a buddy`s ford out,the new 58,800 30 ft has held up nicely since then.

Does fourwheel parts sell the recovery strap? The one that stretches does better than a ridgid nylon one like I have. I dont want to yank somones frame apart, although It'd be cool:rolleyes:

Look on eBay. I have gotten 3 15 footers that are plenty strong. I believe 1 is 46000 pounds breaking strength and 2 are 52000 pound breaking strength. The 2 were $30 shipped and the other was $15 shipped. They are beefy.

What do you guys think I should get for legnth? I was probaly gonna get a 30K. Everythin i do is pretty mild to modderate.
