hi UK newbie. right basically i bought lift kit and 39.5 swampers for my k5.it had bent springs and wrecked tires when i got it so i went mad and bought stuff. its a 78 with gm axles. i know the gearing is goin to be all out now.

will the truck still be driveable or will i damage parts with running such large tires?
i want to use it for some off road but not extreme. would anyone adbvise using different ring and pinion? if so wat ratio?
any help would be most appreciate

its 5.7 v8 headman headers 4 barrel carb. 350 transmission (iv jst rebuit it) and 203 transfer case. axels are 10 and 12 bolt unsure of ratio standard i assume.
the lift is 8 inch

well 8" lift will put your driveshaft angles out of alignment, which'll cause vibration and increased stress without some shims to get it close to stock again, plus the steering geometry is off unless you installed a drop pitman arm.

the 10 and 12 bolts are pretty maxed out running 40" tires, but will probably handle it if you're easy on the gas pedal, might carry some spare axleshafts in case you're not haha.

as for gearing, if they're 3.08's or 3.73's you will have a lower cruise rpm even with no overdrive, but will be pretty gutless offroad without lower gears to help turn those big tires. i'm no expert on gear ratios so hopefully someone will chime in and give you some better info.

thanks for your help. iv got the shims and steering arm to rectify it all and 2 spare sets of axles so ill see how it goes thanks again
