hey guys, i got a question regarding my jetta, but its about modding steel rims, so i figured yall would have a clue.

the plans for my jetta are to take it a rat rod direction. so i want to keep steelies... but i dont like the way the 15in tires look, especially if i lower it, and i dont want to be like every other scion TC/honda accord/diesel jetta on the market so i wanna do something different. I work at an audi dealership, and noticed something kinda cool. The spare tire wheel on the A4 and others is an 18in steelie. its just that its 4in wide.

I was wondering, how much do yall think it would cost to have that rim widened out to 6 or 7 inches? (dont know how wide my wheels are) bright red 18in steelies with a chrome rim, on a lowered mkIV jetta, would be pretty sick, and nothing anyones seen before.

i worked for wheels america remanufacturing and it was around 160 a wheel. we sent it out to california somewhere to get it done.

blast, i guess the search continues for a stock steelie that will fit the bill. the touareg is a 17in wheel, that will probably be the way i go. oh and i screwed up, the spare steelies on the audi's are actually a 19in rim. god that would be sick. but looks like it would be really pricy.

so the vw twarg rims, arent those the inflate-a-spare type wheels? or is it a fullsize spare...

im getting rusty in my old age.

you are correct sir. the tire is the inflate a tire. but the rim is just a steel rim. and looks to be the way im gonna go.

for a 19in rim, i have to increase the tire width to at least a 225mm, which increases rolling resistance (the jetta is all about mileage)

i can do the 17in touareg rim, and still run a 195mm width tire which matches what i have.

id be going from a 195/60R15, to a 195/40R17. tires are still cheap as dirt too. continentals are $90 ea.

still cant get over how sick 19in steelies would be. maybe the 15's for snow tires, 17's for summer tires, and the 19's for shows and meets :)

i just need two sets of adaptors. jetta has a 5 x 100 pattern, Audi has a 5 x 112 pattern, and the touareg uses a porsche 5 x 130 pattern.

geebus, 19in steelies winds up being reaaaally expensive.

rims - $105 ea (my cost, and i work here)
modifying to wider size - $160 ea
spacers to go from 5 x 100 to 5 x 112 - $45 ea
new 225/40R19 tires - $195 ea (conti extremecontact dw)

total cost - more than i can justify right now with everything else going on ($2020.00)

lets see, get the M1009 through the body shop and painted, or a set of unneccessary wheels for the commuter car..... decissions decissions.

:D:D:D

there may be a light at the end of the tunnel. the 2007 audi Q7 uses a 18x7.5 steel rim.

one catch. apparently the special collapsible tire that goes on there is made onto the tire. you have to order them together. and the parts guy has no idea if you can mount a regular tire on that rim, or if it will only work with the tire that was assembled onto it.

time to hit up the vw forum.

Look at steel 16's for a '07 Pontiac Vibe (Toyota). They are about 7 inches wide, and should be the 5x100.

thanks for the suggestion, but im lookin to go BIG with these. or just stick with what i have. the 19's would be nice but the price is ungodly. the Q7 rims seem to be the best bet thus far. 18x6.5 and needing an adaptor.
