Going for the hot rod look with my 72 c10. Getting ready to buy new wheels and tires in the next couple weeks. I have decided on 15 inch American Racing original torque thrust wheels. For tires I am going to run 275/60s in the rear and 255/60s up front. Also I have decided on an 8.5 inch wide wheel in the rear with 3.75 inch back spacing.

My question: Should I run a 7 inch wide or 8.5 inch wide wheel up front. Both would be 3.75 inch backspacing.

What do you guys think? I love the way those 2 tire sizes look together and wondering whether staggered rims as well would either make it look better or worse. Thoughts?

Narrow up front, combined with the right tires, it will drive better, too!

My 81 G-10 van didn't really like having 8" wide stock GM rally wheels on the front--it would want to follow the cracks and ruts in the road and wander around more with the wide rims..

I had a set of 4 rims 8" wide and another set of 4 that were 6" wide,I put the 6" ones up front and it did seem to track better and not want to wander...part of the reason it wandered may be due to the wider rims making the 235-75-15's flatten out more that they did on the 6" rims..so maybe the tires were more the cause than the rims ?..

I think the old vans came stick with 15x6.5 rallys. My truck has 15x7s on it right now with 235/75s on the front and 30x9.5 on the back and it drives fine. I'm thinking I'll go with the 7s in the front and 8.5s in the back. I want the back tires to look noticeably wider for the hot rod look.
